Women’s Basketball Lose in Champaign-Urbana

The Millikin women’s basketball team lost 108-38 in an exhibition game on November 8 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois at the NCAA Division I University of Illinois. For Millikin, the tournament was said to be more about the experience of the game rather than the final score. The Big Blue athletes had the opportunity to take a tour, play at the State Farm Center, and see a big time college sports’ environment. Millikin women’s basketball team also got to hear a talk from Matt Bollant, who is the head coach at the University of Illinois. On the court, Big Blue women shot only 17 percent on the game while the Fighting Illini shot 60 percent from the field. Millikin senior Holly Haskins was the Big Blue’s top scorer with nine points. University of Illinois had six players with double figures, led by Kyley Simmons with 17 points. Coming up: Millikin will open their real season on Saturday, November 15 when they play against Westminster College at Elmhurst College in the CCIW\SLIAC Challenge. Big Blue women basketball’s home opener is at 7 p.m. on November 18 when they host Eureka College.
