Millikin Swimming @ Illinois College

The Millikin men’s and women’s swimming teams both competed at the Illinois College Quadrangular in Jacksonville, Illinois on November 8. Divided into three separate meets, the Millikin teams were 3-0 on the day. Millikin men defeated Illinois College 126-67, trounced Knox College 139-57, and beat Principia College 124-68. The Big Blue women won against Knox 112-104, Principia College 137-76, and Illinois College 118-109. In women’s freestyle, Sami Battle and Felicity Speirs, both freshman, each won two events. Battle won the 50 Yard Freestyle in 25.37 seconds and the 100 Free in 55.38 seconds. Speirs won in the 500 Yard Freestyle in 5:45.42 and the 1650 Yard Freestyle in 19:41.06. Millikin was written in the top two spots in the Women’s 100 Yard Breaststroke with Lauren Stryzek finishing in second with 1:20.91 and Shelby Kobs in first with 1:14.37. The Millikin women also won the 200 Yard Medley Relay with Randi Mehrmann, Shelby Kobs, Emily Vana and Sami Battle swimming legs at 2:04.31. With the Big Blue men, Jeremy Baehler and Spencer McGowan were double event winners. McGowan won the 100 Yard Backstroke in 55.73 seconds and the 200 Yard Backstroke in 2:03.46. Baehler won the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:54.87 and the 1650 Yard Free in 18:27.05. Big Blue took the top three in 100 Backstroke. Andrew Griffin came in second with 2:20.09 and Lewis Hussey in third with 2:20.96. Zak Ellrick won the men’s 50 Yard Freestyle with a finishing time of 23.90 seconds. Millikin men won both relays. Patrick Lewellyan, Ellrick, McGowan, and Chris O’Grady won the 200 Yard Medly Relay with 1:48.12 while Ellrick, McGowen, Lewellyan, and Baehlar teamed up to take the Freestyle finishing with 1:33.23. Coming up: On November 22 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite both teams will compete again.
