The Millikin chapter of the student organization Up ‘Til Dawn hosted its second annual Halloween themed trivia night on Oct. 28. The event took place in lower RTUC and consisted of teams answering different Halloween themed questions which varied in the different rounds.

This event was open to the public for anyone who wanted to participate and not just for people already registered with Up ‘Til Dawn. Though besides being a night dedicated to trivia, the group also focused on recruiting and registering new members and team leaders for the upcoming event on Nov. 20.

Before the trivia night took place, the group put together a presentation about St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and spoke of the importance of fundraising for St. Jude as well as how students could get involved through the Up ‘Til Dawn program here at Millikin. Several members of Up ‘Til Dawn’s executive board set up the event as well as hosted the event doing such things as keeping score, decorating the event, setting up for the event and emceeing the event.

This year, there were a total of two teams that came out to the event. These two teams consisted of five people each who participated in the trivia night. These two teams went by the names “Thing Team Two” and the other team being named “Just Do It!” By the end of the event, the team named “Just Do It!” won the trivia night with a total of 46 points beating out the other team “Thing Team Two” who finished the night with 37 points.

During the night, the questions were divided up into seven rounds of 10 questions each and each of the rounds had a different topic to them. As a team, the participants had to come up with an answer to the question and write it down. The seven topics for the rounds that were included during the night had themes such as “Different events in Halloween history,” “Name that Halloween Candy,” “Screenshots from different horror movies,” “Soundbites from different horror movies” and “Name the Killer from the Horror Movie” as well as a miscellaneous round which dealt with different types of Halloween trivia but without a recurring theme.

During the night, questions varied on their level of difficulty. Some questions were fairly easy while some required time to think about the answer for the question. Luckily for the teams, each team had five members on them and were given time to gather their answers and write them down. The goal wasn’t to be the first team with the right answer; the goal was to see if they could get the right answer, which is what lead most of the night to be a tied score. Although the night also had some suspense to it because when they weren’t tied, either team had a bit of a lead over the other team or a few times, it took at least one round to change the score. Even when another team would take the lead, they usually had to hold that lead or they would lose it due to the close proximity of the scores. It wasn’t until the last round when one team had a noticeable lead over the other one.

For those who couldn’t make the trivia night but still want to participate in Up ‘Til Dawn, there is still time to register for the upcoming event. Visit http://fundraising.stjude.org/site/PageServer?pagename=utd_home if you wish to register for the upcoming event.
