Singin’ Along
The second half of the semester is here and in full swing, unfortunately, and that means those long, sleepless nights are back. Along with those dreadful times, are the days where nothing seems to be going well, and it just keeps getting worse. This week’s playlist is all about being able to shrugging off those bad days and being able to sing along to those fantastic catchy tunes that got most of the students on campus through childhood and here they are today to get them through college. With popular early 2000’s light rock, 90s alternative rock jams, and some funky vibes intertwined, this playlist features some catchy lyrics that will encourage every listener to sing the stress away.
- “Move Along” – The All-American Rejects: Man, these guys rocked. “Move Along” was one of those tunes that everyone wanted to jam out and sing to. Not only are the lyrics super catchy, but the vibe of the tune that just rocks and every listener will sing along. The 2000s were filled with huge hits by The All-American Rejects and most of the students on campus remember these guys quite fondly. “Move Along” not only shares a great message, but allows the listener to just move along with their lives and not worry or stress about the past.
- “Everybody Talks” – Neon Trees: Still their biggest hit to date, Neon Trees stormed onto the music scene with this poppy, extremely catchy hit that has everyone up dancing and singing along. The vocals provide the right atmosphere for the tune and the lyrics leak from the speakers and into the ears of the listener. “Everybody Talks” will encourage the listener to sing along and rock out all day long.
- “Semi-Charmed Life” – Third Eye Blind: This cult classic sneaks its way into listener’s hearts everywhere and provides the listener with groovy grooves, catchy lyrics, and guitar riffs that will leave one in awe. “Semi-Charmed Life” helped Third Eye Blind take over the 90s alternative music scene and lead them into the 2000s with a large fan base and lots of radio play. This hit features lyrics that has every listener wanting to sing along and dancing all around the room.
- “Over My Head (Cable Car)” – The Fray: Caution: Past feelings about how awesome The Fray were will recur throughout this tune. “Over My Head” may be one of their best hits and quite possibly the catchiest. The lyrics are not only memorable, but so true and meaningful for everyone, especially college students. Those moments of feeling over our heads occur for everybody and they tend to hit us the most during college. The Fray provide the listener with an exceptionally beautiful listening experience that includes terrific vocals, rockin beats, and lyrics that will have every listener singing along to.
- “Mr. Jones” – Counting Crows: Talk about one of the most popular alternative rock bands in the 90s, the Counting Crows seemed to be everywhere and their hits continued in the early 2000s. “Mr. Jones” is most definitely their biggest hit and how could it not be? With such groovy vibes and lyrics that are so odd they become so incredibly meaningful and rational to the mind, it’s hard to not sing along with this tune.
- “Two Princes” – Spin Doctors: Yeah, this tune rocks and never gets old. The Spin Doctors bring groovy vibes and descriptive lyrics that tell an extraordinary story of two princes who adore a special girl. The rocking guitar riffs lead this tune into a beautiful atmosphere and the lyrics only allow the listener to create more of a beautiful headspace that is stress free and allows them to sing along.
- “You Get What You Give” – New Radicals: Whatever happened to these guys? The New Radicals are one-hit wonders and one can’t be too upset with that because at least they gave the world this bop. “You Get What You Give” expresses a powerful meaning of not giving up and that everyone has a reason to live. The listener becomes struck by beauty with efficacious lyrics that has them singing in no time and even dancing all around the room. Just remember, even on long, stressful days and weeks, don’t give up. Everyone has music in them.
- “The Impression That I Get” – The Mighty Mighty Bosstones: Ska meets funk or funk meets ska or something like that. Anyways, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones just shred and jam out on by far their biggest hit. Every lick of the horn line seems effortless and gets the listener dancing instantly. The lyrics are quite peculiar, but seem so ordinary and regular due to the insane vocals and all the funky grooves that surround the tune from top to bottom.
- “Smooth” – Santana, Rob Thomas: This insanely vibing Latin Rock megahit dominated the charts for months and has continued to control listeners for years. With Thomas’ smooth and delicious vocals, the listener becomes enamored with the lyrics and can’t help, but try to sing along. Santana’s face melting guitar riff and solo allows the listener to dance even more and want to sing as loud as they can. The repeat button will find its way on with this bop.
