Recently, we got another look at Kane Parsons’ Backrooms through a new trailer, revealing many more details about the upcoming film.
The trailer begins and ends with a song that many Backrooms fans will recognize, titled “Six Forty Seven” by Instupendo.
The fact that the song plays in the trailer gives a lot of hope for the film, as it indicates that the production team is paying attention to what fans of the story want.
I love that we got this song, even if it’s only for a little while. Hopefully, more songs like this are in the movie when it finally releases.
The trailer opens with Chiwetel Ejiofor’s character saying they found something in a store.
We see the inside of what looks to be a furniture store, and the character sees a strange crack in one of the walls. He ends up going through it and no-clipping into the Backrooms in “The Lobby” or “Threshold,” as many fans refer to the area.
One detail shown in “The Lobby” is the piles of junk lying around, including bedside tables, chairs, dressers, and lamps.
Many casual audiences may think nothing of this; it’s just an aesthetic of the Backrooms, but Backrooms fans know that in the Kane Pixel’s Backrooms series (who is Kane Parsons, the director of the movie), the Government uses the Backrooms as a storage space, which ends up opening as an unknown dimension.
The junk piles lying around suggest this narrative will likely be a big part of the movie, and it would be very interesting to see on screen.
Ejofor’s character wanders into the Backrooms, baffled by the endlessness and size of it. He is seen recounting his experience in the Backrooms with another character, showing her a map he drew. The unknown character doesn’t believe him, leading Ejofor to return, this time more prepared.
After this interaction, another character is shown in a mirror with what looks to be a camcorder. A couple of footage shots are shown through this camera as well, paying respect to many fan films that use found footage.
Many fans wanted the whole film to be found footage, while others wanted actual characters and opposed the found footage aspect, so it seems we are getting a bit of both, which can work very well if done right.
In the trailer, a group of characters appears to be banding together to explore the Backrooms and discover what lies beyond them. 
A very interesting part is when two characters tie another to a rope and let him down a slope in the Backrooms. The character being tied is one seen in the camera’s found footage. This very much reminds me of the CGI Backrooms films and clips on the internet, so I am very glad that ominous/eerie vibe is being kept in the film.
It can be hard to maintain the unique feel of small, independent internet short films, but the trailer’s similar vibe makes me very excited and hopeful for the movie.
Eventually, Ejiofor’s character discovers a camera in the Backrooms, and we see a shot of him through a monitor, then right after a shot of a few people in Hazmat suits. These two parts also suggest that the movie will involve the Government in the creation of the Backrooms.
The people in the hazmat suits are government workers sent to perform tasks in the Backrooms and are often the main characters we see in the CGI films online.
This is another part that really excites me, because it looks like everyone involved, especially Kane Parsons, understands what the fans want from this movie.
The end of the trailer shows actress Renate Reinsve’s character wandering into the Backrooms before running away in fear, likely from an entity.
Entities are a controversial part of the Backrooms fandom. Many fans like the entities because they add a physical threat, while others think they take away from the simple, eerie atmosphere of the original Backrooms post.
I am somewhere in the middle. There needs to be entities, as the film needs a conflict, but I also think they shouldn’t rely on monsters, as the concept of infinite liminal rooms is scary enough on its own.
The release date of Backrooms is getting closer every day, and with every new piece of information we get, I am more excited for the movie to finally release on May 29th. With all we have so far, I have no doubt Backrooms will be a hit in theatres.
