Christmas is known as the “most wonderful time of the year,” but what makes that time so wonderful is the traditions that we share with the people that we love.
So I decided to rank them from the worst tradition to the best.
So, here is my ranking of the ten most popular Christmas traditions:
- Christmas Caroling
The only thing worse than having someone knock on your front door is having a group of people who can’t sing serenade you while you awkwardly stand there.
- Elf on the Shelf
A common tradition for little kids, which features a tiny elf that seems to stare at you wherever you go, with a creepy look on its face.
But whatever you do, don’t touch it; it’ll lose its magic. I find this tradition to be useless and to not add anything to the spirit of Christmas.
- Making Paper Snowflakes
Making paper snowflakes is a fun craft, unless you do it wrong and end up with two disconnected pieces of paper that don’t resemble a snowflake.
The worst part about making paper snowflakes is that you usually have to remake them every year.
You can’t really reuse them.
- Gingerbread Houses
Building gingerbread houses is way more difficult than it seems. You try to balance four walls and hold them together with melted frosting.
It’s not fun constructing the house itself, but once you have the house built, the decorating is fun.
- Christmas Cookies
Baking Christmas cookies is a great time, from rolling them out to smelling them baking and then decorating them.
The best part, though, is eating them.
- Looking at Christmas Lights
Whether you’re driving around and looking at Christmas lights or you’re walking through a park, it’s fun to see the creative ways that people decorate for Christmas.
- Decorating The Tree/House
Decorating the house for Christmas always succeeds in getting everyone in the Christmas spirit. From picking out the tree to putting lights and ornaments on it, there is nothing to hate.
- Listening to Christmas Music
Listening to Christmas music is one of the best parts of Christmas. You can listen while wrapping gifts, baking, decorating, or even throughout your regular school or work day.
Everyone has a favorite Christmas song that gets them excited for the season.
My personal favorite is “Step Into Christmas” by Elton John.
- Giving and Receiving Gifts
Who doesn’t like gifts?
Gifts are a part of Christmas that everyone gets excited about, whether you prefer giving or receiving gifts.
From Secret Santa to a traditional Christmas morning gift exchange, it’s always nice to realize how well others know you and to see their reactions to what you give them.
- Watching Christmas Movies
When it’s cold outside, the only thing that we all want to do is to stay home, and watching a movie and staying warm is the perfect thing to do.
Whether it’s a funny movie like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation or a classic like It’s a Wonderful Life, you’re in for an entertaining time.
For college students, Christmas break is a much-needed time for relaxing and spending time with family.
During this break, take some time to enjoy your family’s traditions and however else you like to celebrate the holidays.
