New Twitter Feature

Twitter is initiating a new feature for their users: a buy button. The button is being tested in the United States and allows users to have a chance to put the buy icon in their tweet so that anyone can tap the button and be able to purchase whatever is offered.

This button is allowing users to be able to shop from smartphones and making it “convenient and easy, hopefully even fun.” If users follow brands on Twitter, the brands will be able to have a buy button on any of their tweets so that a follower can tap through to their website and purchase items. The tweets that have a buy button are a lot larger than normal tweets. They fill up almost the entire screen on an iPhone so that they don’t go unnoticed.

Twitter stated that businesses do not have to pay for advertising to use the buy button. This means that all businesses will be able to advertise on Twitter for free. Twitter’s end goal of the buy button is to attract more businesses that use Twitter to advertise with tweets, giving Twitter more ads.

After a user has tapped the buy button, they will be able to enter payment details and shipping before they take you to the business’ site to complete the order. Any purchase can be completed by just a few taps on Twitter, which can pose a problem for people who are tap-happy.

All of the safety and security is done with Stripe, a new startup that is handling payments with many locations on the internet including an app titled Fancy, which is similar to Pinterest, with the additional capability of buying the items that you like.

There is a very small amount of people in the United States using the button currently, but it is said to be getting larger in the next few months. Keep an eye out the next time you are scrolling through Twitter.
