What do Millikin students really think about “The Cafe?”

Sarah Hickey, Biology, Sophomore

“I think the cafe does a good job at offering a variety of food throughout the week. At times, it can become a bit of the same thing over and over again, but usually there is always something to choose from. I do wish that the cafe served regular breakfast longer, because their continental breakfast is pretty limited. Overall, though, the staff does a really good job with feeding us!”

Austen Steven, Music Education, Junior

“The cafe doesn’t have a wide variety of food. They serve the same things for multiple days in a row. However, when they do something different, it usually is really good. The best part is the staff, they are always friendly and kind and can always put a smile on my face.”

Kyline Humm, English Education and Spanish, Senior

“I have always been a fan of the cafe, but mainly for Chef Brian. I love the atmosphere of the area and the staff, but honestly the food is not my cup of tea. I eat it when I am done with student teaching, but there is not a ton of healthy, fresh food options. I can’t eat salads forever and if I need a change from the same food, I tend to lean towards the pizza and fruit. I understand there are budget issues with getting the food we want, but healthier students equals happier students and better outcomes overall. So overall, I think more money should be put towards our food budget, but in the end I like the cafe. It is a nice get away.”

Drew Burge, Business Management, Senior

“I liked the cafe when I was on campus, but now that I live off campus, I cook for myself. The old style middle section in the cafe was always my favorite and you can’t go wrong with the ice-cream machine on a spring day.”

Latrisha Maxwell, Communications, Junior

“I live off campus, and I don’t have a meal plan, but when I did, I enjoyed it. You will always hear some people complaining about the cafe, but honestly, you will always find something in there that meets your current needs. Whether it’s soup, a salad, pizza, an entree or just some ice cream, there is always something in the cafe that you will want to feast on! Some days they might not have anything we’re in the mood for, but that’s the great thing about it being a buffet style cafe. You will always find something you can eat. So, I believe that overall they do a great job with the food they provide for us in the cafeteria.”
