Homecoming Evaluation

Homecoming is an exciting time of year where students are given the chance to really celebrate their school and all the talent within it. The schedule this year was packed with events and sports games; giving students plenty to occupy themselves with. Homecoming is also a chance for past graduates to come back and see what the current students of their alma mater are doing and to relive their exciting time at Millikin.

The week started out with the Color Run in Fairview Park, a change from last year’s run around the campus. Monday’s events, including the Homecoming Kickoff on the quad and the Pep Rally after, were a good start to the week. However, the real thrill was Tuesday’s event; the Talent Show. This event had Kirkland packed with students ready to see the showcased talents. The audience saw many great and well known acts like Physical Graffiti and the Millikin Sapphires, and some new ones like Wild Horses and Nasty Cat. The show was stolen though by the amazing hosts who were a vast improvement upon last year’s holocaust jokes. Nasty Cat ended up taking home a well-deserved crowd favorite award, tapping their way to that valued spot.

Wednesday’s Chalk the Walk and Thursday’s hypnotist show continued to entertain. Larry Volz hypnotized several students who amused the audience that packed LRTUC, filling the chairs and leaving many standing on the back stairs to see.

The Friday fireworks were certainly one of the best firework shows that Millikin has done yet and was an exciting end to the announcement of this year’s Homecoming King and Queen, Aaron Alford and Allie Roop.

Saturday’s big event, the Homecoming football game, ended as many Millikin students are used to; with a loss. However, the loss didn’t get students down and they continued to enjoy the women’s and men’s soccer game; the women lost while the men tied. Spirits were lightened though by the iO Theater show, “Whirled News Tonight.” The impromptu act was a crowd pleaser that was a great end to a surprisingly great homecoming.
