Millikin Women’s Basketball lost to Depauw 80-53 and struggled along the way.
Millikin, while struggling on offense, still showed some strong points, as sophomore Nikkel Johnson played very well today, scoring 24 points and grabbing six rebounds.

Millikin played a heavy post game, and Johnson excelled, using her body and good spot moves to get in and score. She also got to the line when needed, drawing seven fouls and shooting 4-7 from the line.
Millikin, however, struggled to put points up offensively, as no one else reached double digits besides Johnson. The Big Blue struggled shooting tonight, going 4-20 from 3 and 20-57 overall from the field. As well, Millikin struggled with turnovers, having 22 in the game compared to DePauw’s 9.
Millikin’s Defense was very different today and showed some success. They had Sophomore Nylaia Carter run a full man press that had DePauw struggling to reach halfcourt at times. She also grabbed a steal, but mainly disrupted the offense and took away Depauw’s primary ball handlers.
Overall, the Defense wasn’t able to keep up with DePauw’s shooting, as they were 30-66 from the field but 13-19 from the line.
The team overall has lots to improve on before entering CCIW games, but they have the time and potential to do so. Millikin is 2-2 and has played some solid competition, which will help them prepare for a tough CCIW schedule.
Millikin’s head coach and players choose not to comment on the game.
The team looks to bounce back from a loss this Saturday at home versus Washington University at 2:00 pm. This will be a heavily sought-after win for the Big Blue as they look to add to the win column.
