Millikin’s Big Blue takes another loss, extending its losing streak to 6 straight after a blowout loss to Washington University in St. Louis.
Millikin struggled on both sides of the ball today, with the offense turning the ball over two times and going 0-3 on a 4th down.
“[We need to start] clicking at the right time starting with me; I need to play better,” Quarterback Sylas Gomez said. “I just feel like one guy will have a good play, and we’ll have another guy who doesn’t. It’s just clicking all aspects. It’s all 11 players playing together, and we need to play more together as an offense. I need to help those guys and lead them.”
Millikin’s defense had a good first half but failed to maintain that momentum into the second half, similar to what has happened in the season so far.
Overall, the game led to much frustration on the field and on the sidelines, with players complaining and airing issues about the team. When asking the players and coaches, the overlapping comment was, “no comment.”
The team understood the main issues in their overall play and is looking to rely on each other, rather than pointing anyone out specifically.
“It’s not a blame the offense, blame the defense, [or] blame the special teams,” Riebock said.

The team has struggled to find the spark they had at the beginning of the season. The team has been unable to successfully play together due to many issues, with players speaking their opinions on play calling and play time.
“There [has to be] a storm in order for the flowers to bloom,” Gomez said. “I know there’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
The team understands where they stand and is looking to bounce back for the rest of the season.
“We’re in Dante’s Inferno; we’re in a rough spot,” Riebock said. “We’re in hell right now. We have to keep fighting, and eventually we’ll break through and look back on it and chuckle.”
The team is heading on a road trip to play off against Wheaton College as they look to end the 6-game losing streak. The game will take place at 12 pm in Wheaton, IL, on November 8th.
