Millikin athletics kicked off their week on Tuesday, when the men’s volleyball team played their home opener.

The men gained their first win of the season, defeating Rockford University in a shutout. The men won their first match, 25-12, followed by 25-16 ending the second match, and lastly, winning the third match 25-18. 

The men are currently 1-6 overall and 0-0 in conference play. The men will play at Aurora University on Thursday, Feb. 13. Game time starts at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, the men’s basketball team played rivals Illinois Wesleyan University in a close game at home. 

The men lost 74-76 against the titans, battling until the end. The men also played on Saturday, Feb. 8, against Carthage College for their last home game of the season. 

The men lost 63-68, after a questionable ejection on Millikin gained momentum for Carthage. The men are currently 4-18 overall and 1-12 in the conference. They will play at Elmhurst College on Saturday, Feb. 15. Game time starts at 4 p.m.

The men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at Illinois Wesleyan University’s Keck Invite on Saturday, Feb. 8. The men’s team finished in second place and the women’s team finished in fifth. 

Freshman Dane Alexander won the 5000 meters for the men in 15.34.43, setting a new school record. 

The 4×400 women’s team consisting of Hailey Wimberly, Brianna Niebrugge, Akilah Ware, and Morgan Powers, finished third at the competition with a time of 4:02.40. 

However, they also set a new school record. The men’s and women’s teams will travel back over to Illinois Wesleyan University to compete in their Dual Meet on Friday, Feb. 21.

Lastly, the women’s basketball team also played against Carthage College on Saturday, Feb. 8. After a low scoring first half, the women lost 49-58 against Carthage. 

The women are currently 13-8 overall and 6-6 in the conference. The women play at home against rivals Illinois Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Game time starts at 7 p.m.
