Sports Roundup – April 14th, 2019

The Millikin softball team split their double-header with Elmhurst College on Sunday, April 7, winning 7-3 and losing 2-3. The following Wednesday, the Big Blue lost both games to Illinois Wesleyan University, losing 0-2 the first game and 0-1 the second. On Saturday, the women competed in the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament, winning 6-0 against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and then winning 7-6 against University of Chicago. The softball team will play at home against North Central College on Saturday, April 20. The first game starts at 1 p.m. Going into this week, the Big Blue holds a record of 20-8.

The Millikin baseball team started off their week by losing 6-7 to Carthage College on Sunday, April 7. The men faced North Central College on the following Wednesday, losing 6-12. Friday, the men continued the losing streak by losing to Carroll University in a close 0-1 game. Saturday, the Big Blue’s mojo picked up when they won both double-headers against Carroll University, winning 7-0 the first game and 12-1 the second. The baseball team will play at Illinois Wesleyan University for a double-header on Friday. The first game starts at 3 p.m. The Big Blue will travel back home, playing Illinois Wesleyan at home on Saturday. The game starts at 12 p.m. The men enter this week with a record of 12-13.

The women’s golf team competed in Illinois Wesleyan’s Kathy Niepagen Spring Flings on Saturday, finishing in 15th place. Millikin’s top golfer was sophomore Sera Bebon who tied for 38th place. The Big Blue will defend home territory on Friday and Saturday when they host the Take Back the Night Challenge starting at 12:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The men’s golf team placed third in the Viking Invitational at Augustana College, held on Friday and Saturday. Senior Michael Barber was the individual winner of the tournament. The men will also compete in the Take Back the Night Challenge on Friday and Saturday.

The women’s tennis team ended their season with a win on Tuesday, April 9. The women defeated Blackburn College 6-2. The Big Blue ends their season with a 6-13 record.

The men’s tennis team started the week off strong, winning 7-2 against Greenville University on Wednesday. On Friday, the men beat Elmhurst College 9-0, extending their win streak to nine straight wins. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. On Saturday, the Big Blue lost to Augustana College 0-9. The men will play at North Central College on Friday, April 19.

The women’s track and field team finished in eighth place at the Greenville University Meet held on Saturday. Senior Erin Lukens won the 400 Meters and finished first in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Sophomore Brea Blackwell won the Triple Jump while sophomore Brianna Niebrugge finished fourth in the Triple Jump. Freshman Maddy Eck finished fifth in the 1500 Meters, junior Morgan Powers placed seventh in the 800 Meters and junior Natalie Krol placed seventh in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.

The men’s track and field team finished in fifth place at the Greenville University Meet on Saturday. Freshman Ben Kuxmann won the 800 Meters. Freshman Max Rogers finished second in the Triple Jump and seventh in Long Jump. Junior Dalton Collins placed third in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Senior Christian Zenon finished fifth in the 100 Meters and eighth in the 200 Meters. Junior Dalton Glasco finished fifth in the Javelin and sophomore Joey Davies sixth. Sophomore Taijhan Nelson finished sixth in the 5000 Meters. Freshman Cole Lewis placed sixth in High Jump and sophomore Jackson Allen finished seventh in the 100 Meters.

The men and women will travel to Illinois College in Jacksonville on Saturday, April 27 for the Illinois College Meet starting at 11 a.m.
