Volleyball:

The Millikin volleyball team traveled to Washington University in St. Louis on October 21 and won twice. They first beat 25th ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-1 after dropping the first set. Erin Syversen led the Big Blue with 22 kills and 12 digs with Cortney Bohn adding 15 kills and 2 blocks. Emily Mihalkanin had 43 assists. In their second match, Millikin defeated Bowdoin College 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 26-24). Syversen once again led the Blue with 18 kills and 13 digs, and Kelsey Talkington added eight kills. Cassidy Kingery had 14 digs for Millikin.

On day two of the tournament, Millikin split. They first beat the University of Dubuque 3-0, (25-23, 26-24, 27-25) led by Alora Goodey with 11 kills and Emily Seegmiller with 10. In the second match, they took 17th ranked Washington University in St. Louis to five sets. After winning the first two sets, Millikin dropped three straight and Wash-U claimed the victory. Syversen and Goodey each had 17 kills and Mihalkanin had 10 kills, 22 digs, and 44 set assists.

In conference play, Millikin travelled to Elmhurst College to take on the 18th ranked Blue Jays. Unfortunately, the Big Blue was not able to pull out a victory and they suffered their first conference loss. Syversen had 19 kills and Goodey had 13, while Mihalkanin had 43 assists, and Cassidy Kingery had 16 digs and Meredith Artime added 13 digs and 3 aces.

Women’s Soccer

The Millikin women’s soccer team suffered a conference loss at home against Augustana College, 3-0, on October 22. Millikin’s conference record fell to 2-4, and their overall record became 8-6-1.

They also dropped another conference game to Wheaton College on the road after being outshot 31-6 on October 26. Anna Benvenuto had 10 saves in the goal for Millikin.

Men’s Soccer

The Millikin men’s soccer team split their conference games during the week, first beating Augustana College at home, 2-1, with goals from freshman Trey Knighton, off an assist from senior Ben Spelman, and freshman Ivan Lopez. Junior goalkeeper Trevor Creek had one save in the goal, earning the win for the Big Blue. Their second game of the week was a loss at Wheaton College, 4-0. Millikin’s overall record dropped to 8-6-2 while their conference record fell to 2-5.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team took sixth place in the CCIW Championship tournament. Junior Molly Angell won two matches to earn third place individually in the #4 singles bracket. This was the highest individual finish for a Big Blue women’s tennis player since Coach Forman took over the program, and the sixth place finish was the highest finish in the CCIW since 2007.
