With the popularity of 21st-century movies and television, it’s become increasingly popular for symphonies around the world to learn and perform a program of songs from their franchise of choice.
Harry Potter and Star Wars are all films that bring people of all ages into a theater. Now, one of these shows is coming to Millikin.
On Friday, March 27th, The Lord of the Rings universe takes to the stage of the Kirkland Fine Arts Center (KFAC), bringing a night filled with nostalgic music from one of your favorite childhood fantasy series.
The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are both books originally written by J.R.R. Tolkien in the 1930s, both a part of the greater Lord of the Rings series.
Throughout his lifetime, Tolkien expanded the series, and after his death, the books became world-renowned films, the first premiering in 2001. The franchise has only grown throughout the years, the films now followed by spin-off series such as The Rings of Power.
While not based on one of the original books, it still offers a great addition to the universe, as does the music that has since become a recognizable part of it.
The well-known and recognizable tunes have attracted many ears and are now combined into a single concert program to be performed live by a symphony orchestra.
This show will feature music from the popular films, as well as from the spin-off television series, The Rings of Power. The KFAC stage will feature a symphony orchestra that will be tasked with performing these popular songs alongside special guest stars from the original films.
There will be features from a symphony orchestra, choir, and soloists. It will include a range of music made popular by the famous franchise.
Tickets can be purchased online on the KFAC website or in person and range from $60-$90 but can be purchased at a discounted price in person for seniors, veterans, Millikin faculty and staff, Richland faculty and staff, and students. The KFAC ticket office is open Tuesday-Friday from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Music of Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit & Rings of Power concert will be on the Kirkland Fine Arts Center stage on Friday, March 27th. It will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday and end around 6 p.m.
Buy your tickets ahead of time and secure your spot on the nostalgic ride back to the middle-earth universe.
