On February 18th, 2026, in a coordinated attack with Israel, the United States launched air strikes on Iran. Is this not a contradiction to what the all-mighty “peace president” said during his campaign in 2024?
Throughout his campaign, President Donald J. Trump claimed that he was going to stop wars, not start them. Now, international conflicts are rising after he called air strikes on Iran.
Congress is granted the sole power of declaring war, and they have not yet formally announced a declaration of war. In fact, a war has not been formally announced by congress since World War II. Regardless, military action continues throughout the Middle East with seven military members confirmed to be dead.
Those numbers will only continue to rise as the “planned” four-five week military operation that Trump imposed continues. Those seven don’t come close to the hundreds dead in Iran amid the strikes. These aren’t just military and leaders that are being targeted either. In fact, the United States was responsible for bombing an all-girls’ primary school in Minab, resulting not only in significant damage, but numerous casualties.
Is this what “peace” means to Trump? Killing children?
Not to mention that Trump did not receive permission from Congress prior to launching the air strikes, a direct violation to our constitution he has “sworn to uphold.”
There are claims that the war is justified due to the threat of Iran’s nuclear program , and that the US’s actions were a preventative defense. But Iran has not been proved to be an imminent threat to the United States, especially considering how Iran has no long-range missiles that could even reach the US. Then, there are the humanitarian concerns that this war causes. Trump is using this war for his own personal gain and that is it. This war is a choice, not a necessity as he so claims.
It’s a choice that has resulted in the deaths of seven American citizens as of March 9th, and those are only the ones that we know of. Considering everything the government does not tell us, there could be dozens more. But Trump doesn’t care, that’s the point.
He doesn’t care about the people whose lives were lost, nor the families grieving their loved ones. He doesn’t care that, by the day, simple necessities such as gas are becoming increasingly more unaffordable. He doesn’t care that many citizens of this country are afraid of what will happen because of his wish for absolute authoritarian power.
Trump cares about two things. His name, and money. It is blatantly clear that anything less is easily expendable. How much longer are his people going to blindly follow someone who would just as easily sacrifice them for a quick buck? How many more protests need to happen? How many more schools have to be bombed, or people shot? How many more people have to die?
