Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, an independent in the senate, is running for the Democratic party’s presidential nominee. The Vermont Senator has run a campaign focused on working-class citizens and a redistribution of wealth. The most highlighted part of his campaign is arguably his idea on creating a wealth tax.  The tax is annual and only applies to households with a net worth of over $32 million. The tax will only affect the top .01% of U.S. households.

Sanders also supports Medicare for all, although his plan differs from other candidates. His plan will include dental, hearing, vision, mental health and substance abuse treatment, reproductive and maternity care, prescription drugs, and more. He also plans to cap prescription drug prices and ensures Americans that they will pay no more than $200 for life saving medicine.

Many candidates have different views on how to solve the climate crisis, if they have one at all. Sanders’s plan starts with the Green New Deal. He has been a strong advocate for the Green New Deal. Sanders is one of the few candidates to make drastic changes before 2030 as well as create 20 million new jobs in the process. The Senator keeps the working-class in mind and plans to prioritize a just transition for workers in fossil fuel industries.

Sanders believes in canceling all student debt, and he stands for better education among the marginalized. He plans to invest $1.3 billion every year in private, non-profit historically black colleges and universities and minority-serving institutions. He also plans to help cover the cost of non-tuition related expenses through grants and by tripling the funding for work-study programs.

Several prominent names in the House of Representatives have endorsed Sanders. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib are a few. All of these representatives are women of color who were elected to the House in 2018. Sanders’s biggest supporters by occupation are bartenders, forklift operators, fast food workers, and servers.

The candidate is running a campaign for the people. He stresses that his funding comes from the people and not by meeting with the wealthy behind closed doors. One of his popular campaign slogans is, “This is your movement.” Sanders claims to be the only candidate capable of taking on Donald Trump and the billionaire class.
