It’s the moment that all of Millikin waits for.

The moment during which Millikin holds its breath and hopes for the best. The moment in which the happiness of the semester is defined. And no, it is not the moment the doors of the Cookie Party open.

UCB announced the headliner for the upcoming Big Event, an annual concert in KFAC.

This year, the Millikin student body chose from many different genres and many great artists. From Five for Fighting to New Boyz to Kimbra, Millikin students had a tough choice to make.

Millikin’s Big Event will be serenading the angsty teen in each one of us with punk masters MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK at 8 p.m. March 21. At it since 1997, the Minneapolis quintet has released five studio albums including the most recent “Go,” released in June 2012. Appearing with these seasoned rockers will be Quiet Corral, a Lawrence, KS based southern rock outfit. A nice complement to the excited punk of Motion City Soundtrack, this year’s Big Event is sure to provide music for everyone.

As with past Big Events, Millikin students get an MU one free ticket, but there are some unique opportunities that UCB will provide regarding the concert as well. On two occasions before the concert, UCB will be raffling on a front row tickets for one student and a friend.

UCB will be showing the Denzel Washington film “The Great Debaters” as a part of African American History Month and will be raffling of front row tickets. The event will be in LRTUC at 8 p.m. Feb. 22 and is open to all students.

March 5 brings two very unique opportunities to Millikin’s campus with not only the chance to win front row tickets, but also a brand new event introduced to the student body. The Songwriter’s Competition gives aspiring musicians the chance to perform their original material in front of a panel of Millikin faculty and students who will judge and choose a winner. “The winner of the competition will have their song recorded my Millitrax and released with First Step which goes to Spotify and iTunes,” Chris DiGiacomo, music chair for UCB, said.

One guest will have his or her name drawn and will get to choose a friend to sit in the front row and get the full rocking experience of this year’s Big Event. The Songwriter’s Contest at 7:30 p.m. March 5 in Kuaeper Hall.

While the Big Event is the largest that UCB puts on throughout the year, it certainly is not the only. UCB programs a multitude of events for the student body, and are always looking for eager students with great ideas. Their meetings are on Monday nights at 9p.m. in the Wood Room on the main floor of RTUC. They can be found on facebook at www.facebook.com/MillikinUCB, and on twitter at @UCBMillikin.

So be watching for posters and banners all around campus and get your tickets before they’re all gone! Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. Millikin students use MU One Free tickets, and tickets for non-Millikin students will be around $15. Merchandise will be sold after the show. Get ready to welcome Quiet Corral and Motion City Soundtrack for what’s sure to be another great Big Event at Millikin.
