The War on Civil Rights in North Carolina
WTF North Carolina state law makers! People can’t use the bathroom without enough stress as it is and you want to force Trans people to use the bathroom according to their gender at birth and or their gender on their identification also known as very definition of misgender. Why? It seems you believe people are going to abuse their right to use the bathroom to try and harass people of the opposite gender/ sex so you enacted this law. My question is, has it ever occurred to you that no one ever thought of that (harassing people of opposing gender/sex) before you said it? I am not sure why these lawmakers even decided to even further attach gender let alone what’s between someone’s legs to the place where one goes to pee etc. I don’t believe bathrooms should have genders but that’s another conversation for another day. If state lawmakers had an issue where they felt people would abuse using their right to use the bathroom to harass people, why are they clamping down on people who aren’t abusing said right. They made transgender people the scapegoat for their sick perverted fantasies of “what obviously must be occurring in bathrooms according to them.” They took away Trans people and local government rights just to feel good about themselves and back themselves on the back.
I am fed up with people, in particular straight mostly white cis-males who believe they have the right to utilize the law to make themselves feel comfortable. Yet, the rest of us who are not straight white cis-males have to suffer and potentially be uncomfortable and or more uncomfortable than we already are in what is supposed to be public spaces like bathrooms. In what world does a women no matter if she is transgender or not deserve to be told you can’t use the women’s bathroom because your identification says you’re otherwise.
Hey, lawmakers why don’t you worry more about laws that make society safer and less about making and enacting more laws like HB2 that is clearly just thinly-veiled discrimination. This bill eliminates any local government’s power of passing any anti-discrimination laws to protect members of the LGBTQ community and with swift action at that. It was introduced and went through both the state house and senate and within the day it was passed. It’s almost like they were looking for a chance to pass a highly restrictive discrimination law against those in the LGBTQ community. They just couldn’t wait to discriminate. This makes it very troubling that state lawmakers thinks such a bill is okay to have on the books. This bill prevents civil suits on a local government level which means citizens have 180 days to file discrimination claims to even be considered to file those same claims at a federal level. However, previously citizens had three years to file those same claims of discrimination at the federal level.
They have intend to make society an increasingly unsafe space, all because they all are worried someone who identifies differently than they do intends to harass and or try and “hit” on them in the bathroom. That’s the last thing on anyone’s mind when they enter a bathroom to their business. I am confused, upset and aggravated all at the same time about this law and if you’re not I’m assuming you just like sitting back and watching the world burn. Let me remind you if this law stands everyone’s civil liberties are in danger more than they already are. It’s like state lawmakers plum forget about, what they were elected to do! North Carolina’s Governor Pat McCroy just declared that this law was the government basically trying to find a compromise for the public and he is urging the General Assembly to modify a part of the law. He is guilty of skirting the real issue here, which is state lawmakers and himself passed and signed in action a law that is riddled with discrimination and a restriction of civil liberties on citizens whether they be Trans/ LGTBQ community or not. He is like the TSA having us all “take off our shoes at the airport after 9/11” type of governor. It doesn’t really do much to make us safer it only further makes us feel more uncomfortable and inconvenienced. Unfortunately for citizens of North Carolina the governor’s executive order winds up being nothing more than empty promises. It doesn’t attempt to modify the law left alone modify the part of the law that strips Trans people of their rights to use the bathroom associated with the gender they identify with. If Gov. Pat McCroy intended to look like he actually contributed something worthwhile to covering up the mess that is this law he succeeded but that is about all he did. He cannot try and wipe his hands clean of this situation because he is just as much to blame as the state lawmakers are in signing this law into action. If a state can just swiftly and simply within a day take away citizens’ rights whether they be transgender or not to claim discrimination and use the bathroom with the gender they identify with what else do they intend to take away from us? At the end of the day citizens whether they be transgender or not just want to use the bathroom associated with the gender they identify with. Therefore forcing them into situations where business, organizations etc. can force them into using the incorrect bathrooms leaves them vulnerable and open to even more discrimination and hatred. North Carolina repeal law HB2 and for Pete’s sake just let Trans people use the bathroom in peace.
