Can Bernie Sanders Beat Trump?
Bernie Sanders is a U.S. Senator running to potentially get the Democratic Party nomination to run for president. He is still underestimated and rarely talked about in the media even when he wins. Just recently when he won Washington, Alaska and Hawaii all that was in the news was Donald Trump and Ted Cruz’s petty high school drama rift and Hillary Clinton having the lead over Bernie Sanders in delegates. When he won those states it was mentioned they had a low amount of monitories which is incorrect thereby setting off the #BernieMadeMeWhite. The media seems to forget they need to be somewhat objective.
There is little mention of Bernie Sanders even though he is a viable candidate making strides to become the next President of the United States. The media makes him seem like an underdog in most cases yet he is not a complete unknown which scares them and the GOP. He is United Sates Senator from Vermont who isn’t afraid to take charge and not play into hands of the Banks, Big Corporations and Wall Street.
He cannot be bought because he knows what big money running government can and will do. He intends to be the voice of the people no matter their race, age and religion/gender etc. He wants to raise the minimum wage and help Puerto Rico restructure its debt. He is all for big corporations and the wealthy paying their fair share in taxes because “No one who works 40 hours a week should be living in poverty.” He isn’t about giving handouts to the banks, Wall Street and Big Money and he wants to make education affordable so citizens don’t have to choose between working a minimum wage job and receiving an education. He is a serious threat because not only he is a rebel but he is a rebel with a cause.
Now Donald trump is still running for President and it still hasn’t been revealed it’s an elaborate tomfoolery stunt. However, despite his hate speech and bigoted and violent rhetoric he seems to be surging the polls. This is really concerning because that means there are enough citizens who agree with him that he could potentially win the nomination and even the Presidency. When I look past his outlandish comments he doesn’t really have any plans to help the economy other than the fact that he is “good business man” and is very wealthy. His slogan is “Make American Great Again”, implying we aren’t great and that he alone can make us number one. The problem is America ascent to greatness will take more time than what he is implying.
When I took a look at his campaign site the only positions he has listed are reforms in Healthcare, U.S. – China Trade, and Veterans Administration and Taxes and Second Amendment rights and lastly Immigration. Now, I’m no expert but 6 positions seems like a pretty low number to have on your official campaign site. There is also video messages on his site where he goes over his opinion on The Second Amendment, Education, and Political Correctness and Illegal Immigration to name a few.
Upon a closer look at his positions and videos it was clear to me Donald Trump only has what he wants to accomplish in office NOT how he wants to accomplish those plans. His official campaign issues page starts with a video debunking what has been said about him in the media and what other politicians are doing that is dishonest. That video is the longest video on his site and it’s only 3:08 minutes long. I thought his videos would explore his detailed plans to reform the nation but they come off as just more of his way to showcase his brand/ personality off. I learned other than he wants to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it, that he wants to end Common Core because apparently it’s a disaster and he will make America’s military so big and strong nobody is going mess with us. On his positions page again he states his stance but there is no detailed plan how he plans to accomplish tax, immigration or any other reform he plans to accomplish. I have feeling this not what Teddy Roosevelt meant when he said “Speak Softy and Carry a Big Stick.”
If it comes down to it can David (Bernie Sanders) beat Goliath (Donald Trump), I believe so. The Bernie Sanders campaign has raised $44 million in donations, is winning delegates and is drawing mass quantities of people to the town halls, speeches and the polls. He is active on social media and has his finger on the pulse and he isn’t just saying what he thinks people want to hear. He acknowledges the fundamental problems with the state of the nation and he outlines plans to address and or fix them with the help of the people and government.
