Middle Schooler From Texas Saves Kids Lives

Concerned about children’s safety, middle schooler Dylan Puccetti decided to create an app to save them. Dylan is interested in technology and pretty good at using it; he already had two patents in inventions he has created and now he’s planning on saving the world one child at a time.

This app is for android phones and is already on Google Play with 200 downloads. The app, titled “Save Me,” can be used just by hitting the power button multiple times. It sends out a pre-written text to your emergency contacts which says, “Please help, I may be in danger.” With the text, the parent can also see exactly where the child is on a map. The Save Me app could also be used in times of peer pressure when a child wants out of a situation and wants their parent to come get them. The message will be sent quickly and quietly so that the attacker would never even know that it happened.

Puccetti said that it would be great with peer pressure because of the fact that it is silent. “I can press that button a few times, and my dad will call me, and I could answer it, and I could be like, ‘well I have to go real quick, I’ll see you later.’” It can work as an excuse to get out of a tricky situation and let his parents know he may be in need. Dylan came up with this app after hearing about Jessica Cain, a 17 year old girl who disappeared in 1997. Like Dylan, she was from Texas and disappeared after going to a restaurant and has never been found. Dylan’s dad was friends with Jessica and talks about her situation often around Dylan, which prompted him to think of ways so that it could never happen again.

Dylan goes to Austin Middle School in Galveston, and his best or favorite subjects are math, science and engineering. When he first patented an invention he was in fifth grade. It was a tool to teach young baseball players how to pitch. It is a fold out invention that he came up with on his own. His dad said that Dylan’s mind is going constantly and coming up with great stuff to fix problems that he finds today. He may save someone’s life.
