Sports Round Up
As the end of the semester comes to an end, so does Millikin athletics.
On Sunday, the men’s basketball team played University of Chicago at home. The men lost 75-85, losing their season opener at home. Having almost a week off from games, the men lost to Rhodes College 70-85 on Saturday at the Rhodes Tip Off Tournament. The men are currently 0-3 and will play against Coe College on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at home. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Like the men’s basketball team, other Millikin teams did not complete until Saturday, Nov. 16. The triathlon team competed in the NCAA National Championships in Tempe Arizona. The women finished third overall for the second year in a row. Senior Morgan Powers finished in 7th place with a time of 1:16.18. Followed by sophomore Hope Roderick finishing in 10th place with sophomore Brigid Duesterhaus finishing behind in 11th place. Freshman Morgan Rockwell placed 17th, freshman Kaitlin Yelaska placed 26th, sophomore Jaden Lockard placed 28th, freshman Fiona Rosko placed 30th, and junior Elizabeth Schager placed 39th.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams also ended their season on Saturday, competing in the NCAA Midwest Regional at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne Wisconsin.
The men finished in 13th place out of 36 teams. The men’s top finishers were freshmen Gabe Bush with the time 26:2.5 finishing 71, freshman Austin Bridgman with time 26:27.3 finishing 75, and freshman Dane Alexander with the time 26:31.6.
The women finished in 21st place out of 35 teams. The women’s top finishers were sophomore Victoria Mineo with the time 23:24.7 finishing 49 and junior Joycelyn VanAntwerp with time 24:12.7 finishing 83.
The football team also ended their season on Saturday, losing 32-59 to North Central College. The men ended their season 5-5 overall and 4-5 in the conference.
The women’s basketball team played against the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin on Saturday. The women won 68-51, extending their record 3-0 overall. The women next play at Beloit College on Thursday, Nov. 21. Game starts at 7 p.m.
Lastly, the wrestling team traveled to Virginia to compete in the Southeast Duals. The men won all four matches they competed in. The first match against Greensboro College won 43-0, following beating Ferrum College 34-12. The men defeated Washington and Lee University 34-9 for the third match and then beat Averett University 39-9 on the final match. The men are currently 5-0-0 overall and 0-0-0 in the conference. The men will compete at Olivet College for the Comet Duals on Saturday, Nov. 23. Matches start at 11:30 a.m. ET.
