Sports Round Up

Millikin started this past week with Men’s Soccer, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Volleyball, Women’s Soccer, and swim. 

Women’s Volleyball first played Oshkosh Friday October 25th where they won 3-2. The following day they lost to Eau Claire 0-3 and won against Platteville 3-1. 

Millikin Football played Elmhurst College Saturday October 26th where they won 34-0. It was a very rainy day but Millikin still managed to come out with a win. Millikin football is now 4-3, 3-3 while Elmhurst falls to 1-6, 1-5.

Millikin Swim opened up their season Saturday afternoon at Augustana College where they won. The men’s side won 146-26 while the women’s side won 138-65. Women’s Swim won the 200 yard Medley Relay finishing three seconds ahead of Augustana college. Freshman Sean Griffin won the Men’s 1000 Yard Freestyle with a recording at 10:59.07.

Women’s and Men’s Soccer both lost Saturday evening. Women’s soccer lost 2-3 while Men’s soccer lost 0-1 against Carthage College. 

Men’s Soccer played and lost 2-4 at Illinois Wesleyan on Tuesday October 29 at 7:30. The game was moved up one day due to possible bad weather. Wesleyan managed to get an 1-0 lead in the first of the two goals. Andreas Raaket tied the score with a free kick. Wesleyan scored twice more in the first half making it a 3-1 score. Russell Pruitt scored one more point from Ben Maynard’s assist. Although Millikin Men’s Soccer lost 2-4, we are still 5-9-1, 1-6.

Men’s Basketball started their season off by playing Bradley college on Tuesday October 29th. This preseason exhibition game at Carver Arena ended with a loss 52-91. The game started off well with Millikin getting the tip-off which was followed by a layup made by Korbin Farmer. In the end, Bradley defeated Millikin with a final score of 52-91.

Wednesday October 30th, Women’s Volleyball lost 0-3 against Carthage College. With this loss, the Big Blue finished third in the CCIW and will host the six seed in the CCIW on Tuesday, November 5th at the Griswold Center.

Women’s Soccer played against Wesleyan on Wednesday night also where they lost 4-1. For the second straight game, conditions were unfavorable with rain, wind and cold temperatures. Illinois Wesleyan posted two first period goals with Cameron Hindel and Braelyn Spears scoring for the Titans.
