Sports Round Up

On Oct. 16th, Women’s Volleyball defeated Elmhurst College 3-1 at Elmhurst. The team moved up to 5-1 in the CCIW conference, making them second overall in the conference, behind 6-0 Carthage College. 

Women’s Tennis team finished out their season securing fifth place in the CCIW Championships held Oct. 17-19 at Hanover Park. The team had 14 total points overall throughout the three-day tournament, coming in behind North Central and Carthage College.

On Oct. 18th, men’s and women’s cross-country competed in the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria. Both teams had a strong showing with the men finishing in third place and the women placing fifth place overall. 

Women’s Triathlon secured their place in the Triathlon championships with a second place finish on Oct. 19th in the East Regional Qualifier at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. Morgan Powers and Hope Roderick were the Big Blue’s two top 10 finishers with Powers securing sixth place and Roderick securing ninth place. Next up for the team are the NCAA Championships on Nov. 16th in Tempe, Arizona.

Men’s and Women’s Soccer both fell against the Augustana College Vikings on Oct. 19th. The Women lost 0-1 and the Men lost 0-2. 

Also on Oct. 19, the Big Blue Football team lost against Carthage College 53-50. The game was very close, with the Big Blue making a great comeback after the first quarter where Carthage led 28-7. The team managed to tie 50-50 with the Red Men with 4:15 left in the fourth quarter, but Carthage secured a final field goal and won the game 53-50. 

Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams hosted Wheaton College on Oct. 23rd and the teams lost to the pioneers with both teams losing 0-3. 

Women’s Volleyball team had their final home game on Oct. 23rd, against North Park University, and defeated them 3-0, now making their conference record 6-1. Their final conference matchup against undefeated 7-0 Carthage College is on Oct. 30th at 7pm in Kenosha, WI. This final game will determine who is the conference champion of the season. 

Men’s and Women’s Swimming opened their season at Augustana College in a dual match against Augustana and Knox College on Oct. 26th. Both teams would defeat Knox College but both fell to Augustana. Recording wins were by Brigid Duesterhaus in the Women’s 50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle, Olivia Marquardt in the Women’s 100 Yard Butterfly, and Felix Archer in the Men’s 200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Backstroke. The teams will next compete on Nov. 9th at 1pm against Carroll University at the Decatur Family YMCA.

Big Blue Football hosted Elmhurst at home Oct. 26th and defeated the BlueJays 34-0 on a rainy game. The Big Blue totaled 329 yards in offense and limited Elmhurst to only 100 yards in total offense. Touchdowns were made by running back Ladavion Severado, wide receiver Colton Lockwood, wide receiver Leigh Nutall, defensive back Nathaniel Moore, and wide receiver Jordan Smith. Running back Richard Cosey added two more points on a conversion run. The Big Blue is now 4-3 in the season and 3-3 overall in the CCIW conference. The team will next travel to Illinois Wesleyan University on Nov. 2nd at 1pm. 

Also on Oct. 26th, the men’s and women’s soccer teams hosted Carthage College. The women lost to the Lady Reds 3-2 and the men lost to the Red Men 0-1. Women’s soccer will host Illinois Wesleyan University at home on Oct. 30th at 7:pm and Men’s soccer will travel to Illinois Wesleyan on Oct. 30th at 7pm.  

Women’s Basketball kicks off their season on Oct. 28th against University of Illinois, Springfield, and Men’s Basketball starts their season on Oct. 29th in Peoria against Bradley University.
