Sports Round Up

After a tough homecoming weekend for Millikin athletics, teams were ready to start fresh. The week kicked off with the men’s golf.
On Monday, Sept. 30, the men competed at home for Millikin’s Country Club Classic. The first round was supposed to be on Sunday, Sept. 29, but due to weather resulting in wet course conditions, the match was postponed. Millikin tied with Webster University for second place with a team total of 581. Rival team Illinois Wesleyan won the tournament with a team total of 572. Sophomore Tyler Reitz and sophomore Seth Graver tied for fourth with a 143. Senior David Crosby tied for eighth at 144. The Country Club Classic put an end to the men’s golf fall season. The season will begin again on Monday, March 9, 2020.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, the women’s soccer team traveled to Washington University in St. Louis. The women were shutout 0-5 by the number six ranked Bears. The women beat North Park University on Saturday, shutting them out 4-0. The women’s record is 3-5-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference. The women will travel to Elmhurst College on Saturday, Oct. 12 to take on the Blue Jays. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

The men’s tennis team played in the ITA Tournament in Kalamazoo, MI. Since the tournament lasted Friday through Sunday, results were not posted in time. The tournament concluded the men’s fall season. The first match for the spring season will be on Feb. 1 against Concordia University.

The women’s tennis team also competed on Friday and were shutout 0-9 by Wheaton College. On Saturday, the women flipped the tables and shutout Elmhurst 0-9. The women currently have a record 5-6 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The women next play against Carthage College at home on Friday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams both traveled to Augustana to compete in the Augustana Brissman Lunden Classic on Friday. The men finished in eighth place and the women finished in 11th place. Both the men and women will next compete on Friday, Oct. 18 at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. They will compete in the Bradley Pink Classic with race time starting at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, the women’s volleyball won both games played at home. First, the women defeated Simpson College 3-0. Later, the women beat Alma College again winning 3-0. The women currently are 9-8 overall and 2-1 in conference record. The women will next play against Wheaton College at home on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Game starts at 7 p.m.

The football team lost for the second week in a row against Augustana College. After the game being delayed due to weather, Millikin fell to Augustana 14-40. The team now has a record of 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The men will play Carroll University at Carroll on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Lastly, the men’s soccer fell to North Park University 0-5 on Saturday. The men are currently 4-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the conference. The men will next play at Elmhurst College on Saturday, Oct. 12. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
