Millikin athletics kicked off homecoming week with men’s and women’s golf. The men’s team traveled to Rhodes College for their College Fall Collegiate Classic in Tunica, Mississippi. The Fall Classic lasted two days, Sept. 22 and 23. Millikin finished by tying for seventh place. The men had a three round total of 894. Junior Mitch Cremer was Millikin’s top finisher. He tied for 22nd with a 220. Sophomore Tyler Reitz tied for 40th. 

The women’s golf team stayed at home and hosted the Dechert Classic on Sept. 21 and 22. The women placed second and tied with North Central College at 698. North Central ended up winning the playoff hole to win the event title. Junior Sera Bebon was Millikin’s top finisher, placing fourth and senior Gabby Correa tied for fifth place.

The men’s golf team played again this past week for the CCIW Preview in Normal, IL. The men finished in third place. Sophomore Tyler Reitz lead the team, followed by junior Mitch Cremer who tied for 10th. The men will end their fall season on Sept. 30 when they participate in the two-day Millikin’s Country Club Classic.

On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the women’s tennis team lost 0-9 to Augustana College in Rock Island, IL. The women also lost to Roosevelt University 2-7 on Saturday. The women now have an overall record of 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference.

The women’s volleyball team beat North Central College 3-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The women won the first and second set 25-12 and the third and final set 25-16. Freshman Tori Stuart recorded 16 kills, senior Skylar Harris recorded four aces, and freshman Jessi Kreder recorded six total blocks on defence. 

Lastly on Wednesday, the men’s soccer team beat DePauw University at home, winning 2-1. The men won in overtime when freshman Andreas Raaket scored off a pass from freshman Simen Nodlanda. Raaket also scored Millikin’s first goal of the night.

 The women’s golf team competed in the CCIW Championship, starting on Thursday, Sept. 26 and ending on Saturday, Sept. 28. The women placed fourth. Millikin’s top scorer was junior Erika Castanon who tied for 13th. Junior Sera Bebon was Millikin’s second top scorer, placing 15th.

Starting off homecoming weekend, the men’s and women’s cross country teams both stayed at home for the H.W Wright Classic. Both teams finished in first place. 

Junior Taijhan Nelson lead the men’s team by finishing in second place, followed by freshmen Dance Alexander placing fourth, and freshmen Gabe Bush placing seventh. 

The women’s team was led by sophomore Victoria Mineo placing fourth, followed by junior Joycelyn VanAntwerp in fifth, and freshmen Maddy Eck placing seventh. 

Both the men’s and women’s team will travel to Augustana College on Friday, Oct. 4 for Augustana’s Brissman Lunden Classic. The meet starts at 4:30 p.m. for both the men and women.

On Friday, the women’s volleyball team lost to Illinois Wesleyan University 0-3 at home. The women’s record is currently 7-8 overall and 2-1 in the CCIW conference. The women next play at home against Coe College and Alma College on Friday, October 4 at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the women’s soccer team fell 3-2 to North Central College. The women now have an overall record of 2-4-2 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference. The women will travel to Washington University in St. Louis, MO on Wednesday, Oct. 2. Game start time at 7:30 p.m.

The men’s soccer team also lost to North Central College, losing 0-1 in overtime. The men currently have a record of 4-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference. The men will stay home to play North Park University on Saturday, Oct. 5. Game starts at 7:30 p.m.

The men’s tennis team also lost this weekend, 0-9 against Roosevelt University. The men now have an overall record of 4-5 and 2-2 in the conference. The men will stay at home to face Wheaton College on Friday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m.

The last upset of homecoming weekend was the football team being shut out by Wheaton College. The football team lost 0-62. The men now have a record of 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference. They will travel to Augustana College to play on Saturday, Oct. 5. Game starts at 1 p.m.
