Sports Round-Up
Millikin softball started off the week by winning both games against North Park University, winning 7-3 the first game and 12-3 the second game. The Big Blue played later in the week on Saturday, splitting the double-header against Augustana College. They lost 1-2 the first game and won 6-4 the second game.
On Sunday, Millikin again split the doubleheader, this time against Elmhurst College, winning 7-3 the first game and losing 2-3 the second game. They ended the first week of April with a record of 18-6. The softball team plays Illinois Wesleyan University at home for two games on Wednesday, April 10. The first game starts at 5 p.m. They will also compete in the Illinois Wesleyan Tournament on Saturday, April 13. The first game, they will play against University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 10 a.m. and the University of Chicago at 4:45 p.m.
The Big Blue baseball team began their week by defeating Wheaton College 3-0 on Monday. Keeping their momentum going, they won both games against Elmhurst College by a landslide on Tuesday, winning 11-3 and 24-0.
On Saturday, Millikin split the doubleheader against Carthage College, losing 1-4 the first game and winning 9-1 the second game. The following Sunday, Carthage College again beat the Big Blue 6-7. Millikin will play at home against North Central College on Wednesday, April 10, beginning at 6 p.m. Later in the week on Saturday, April 13th, the Big Blue will play Carroll University for a doubleheader at home starting at 3:30 p.m.
The women’s golf team competed in the Lee & Joe Duncan Rhodes Invitational on Sunday, March 31st and Monday, April 1st, earning fifth place. Sophomore Sera Bebon was Millikin’s top golfer, finishing in 15th place. The team competed at the Washington University St. Louis Spring Invitational, finishing in 14th place. Again, Millikin’s top golfer was Sera Bebon, tying for 48th place. The women will travel to Illinois Wesleyan to compete in the Kathy Niepagen Spring Flings on Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14.
The men’s golf team competed in the IWU Invitational on Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6. The Big Blue finished in 11th place with the top golfer, Ryan Forrest, tying for 28th place. The men will compete in the Viking Invitation at Augustana College on Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13.
The women’s tennis team did not compete in any matches this past week, but coming up, they compete at Blackburn College on Tuesday, April 9, starting at 4:30 p.m.
The men’s tennis team competed against Carthage College on Friday, April 5, defeating Carthage 5-4. The following day, Millikin beat Carroll University 8-1. The men will play at Greenville University on Wednesday, April 10 at 4:45 p.m. Later in the week, the team will play at Augustana College on Saturday, April 13 at 9 a.m.
On Saturday, April 6, the men’s and women’s track and field both finished in first place at Millikin’s own Big Blue Alumni Meet on Saturday, April 6.
On the men’s side, Dalton Collins won the 110 Meter Hurdles and finished first in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Ben Kuxmann won the 800 Meter and Will Powell won the 5000 Meter. Ethan Meyer won the Triple Jump and finished in third in the 400 Meters. Dalton Glasco won the Javelin, Christian Zenon placed second in the 100 Meters and also tied for second in the 200 Meters. Jackson Allen placed fourth in the 100 Meters and 200 Meters.
The men won the 4×100 Relay with Aleen, Eddie Wilson, Markus Hughlet, and Zenon. The men also won the 4×400 Relay with Allen, Collins, Kuxmann, and Meyer. Kemond Murray finished in second place in Shot Put, Marshun Hart finished in second in Long Jump, Max Rogers also finished in second in Triple Jump, and Cole Lewis finished in fourth in High Jump.
On the women’s side, Brianna Niebrugee placed second in the 400 Meters and second in Long Jump. Hailey Wimberly placed third in the 200 Meters and fourth in the 400 Meters. Victoria Mineo finished in third in the 1500 Meters. The women won the 4×400 Relay with Mackenzie Dixon, Erin Lukens, Niebrugge, and Wimberly. In Shot Put, McKenzie Miller placed first.
Charlize Pate placed third, and Anna Gambol placed fourth. Miller also won Discus with Niebrugge placing second and Gambol placing fourth. Alexis Obermeyer won the Women’s Hammer, with Stephanie Oliver finishing in second, and Gambol finishing in third. Gambol won Javelin with Oliver next in second and Becca Nichols in third.
