Millikin University Women’s Basketball team was defeated by Wheaton College 78-66 at the King Arena in Wheaton, Illinois, on January 21. Wheaton had the lead for most of the first half, but Millikin University stayed closely behind until the final minutes of the first half when Wheaton pushed its way to the lead of 15 points. Wheaton led the game 43-28 at halftime. Big Blue played better in the second half of the game by outscoring Wheaton by three points, but Millikin University could not seem to make up the deficit from halftime. Wheaton ended up shooting 46 percent from the field with 52 percent in the first half.  Wheaton was 9-22 from three point range while Big Blue was only to 2-17. Millikin did however win the rebounding battle by 40-38. Millikin’s top scorer was Alyssa Saklak (Junior) with 26 points and eight rebounds.  Kelsey Going added 13 points and six boards to the Big Blue score. Millikin’s stats now fall to 12-5, 3-3 while Wheaton’s stats improve to 15-2, 5-1.

Coming up: Millikin will be hosting Augustana College at 5 P.M. on Saturday, January 24 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Illinois.
