Millikin Women’s Basketball December 21- Jan 7

On December 31, the Women’s Basketball team won their ninth game of the season. The game was against MacMurray College from Jacksonville, Il. The Big Blue demolished MacMurray with a score of 98 to 57. The girls won this game coming off of a ten day break. Millikin shot 60 percent from the field in the first half, coming out with a score of 59 to 30. The second half of the game the girls shot 51 percent from the field, holding MacMurray to only 35.5 percent. Millikin also out-rebounded MacMurray 55 to 29.

The Big Blue had four players with scores in the double digits. The leading scorer for Millikin was Devin Curry with a career high 24 points. Also scoring in the double digits were Alyssa Saklak with 21 points, Hannah Millington with 16 points, and Holly Haskins with 13.

On January 3, 2015, the Millikin Women’s Basketball team won the CCIW season opener against North Park University with a score of 69-66. North Park controlled the first half of the game building to a 38 to 27 advantage at half time. Millikin got their offense going in the second half by hitting 64 percent of their shots from the field. The Big Blue took the lead with eleven minutes left in the game. Millikin held the lead until 4:26 left in the game when the Vikings came back to make the score 59 to 57. With 1:17 left in the game Millikin took the lead 66 to 64. Lastly, in the final twelve seconds of the game, freshman Devin Curry hit a three-pointer to make it 69 to 66.

Millikin shot 51 percent from the field holding North Park to 38 percent. Millikin also controlled the board during this game with a total of 43 rebounds.

January 7 in Naperville, Il, the Big Blue Women’s Basketball team lost to North Central College with a final score of 95-75. Millikin stayed close with the Cardinals’ fast break and shoot style in the first half. The score at half time was 45-40 North Central. North Central took 98 shots during the game but were only 34 percent from the field. Millikin put up 77 shots during the game and were 38 percent from the field. North Central also out-rebounded Millikin with 61 rebounds to Millikin’s 59. North Central forced Millikin into 24 turnovers while only committing 12.
