Head Golf Coach: Sam Osborne

This week’s coach interview goes to head to men’s golf coach, Sam Osborne. Osborne played golf here at Millikin and was team captain for three consecutive years. He even won a college tournament. Osborne felt very fortunate when he was asked to coach golf at Millikan a year after he graduated. To him, golf is the greatest and most challenging game in the world. He loves to play golf, as well as teach it. To Osborne, learning new things every day makes the job awesome.

Osborne’s goals for this upcoming golf season are to keep the team GPA over 3.0 and to win the CCIW conference championship. Osborne believes that competition is great for everyone and it keeps the team on their toes. Speaking of competition, Osborne believes that Illinois Wesleyan has been and always will be the team’s biggest competitor.       Success to Osborne is winning a conference championship, as well as helping his team mature and realize that they are capable of anything with hard work, ethics, and the right mindset. Osborne tries to remind his players that this is a very special time in their young lives and that college is fun. He tries to keep the boys positive by talking to them throughout the game. To get them ready for the game, he takes them out to breakfast before their games, whether it is at the hotel or at McDonald’s.
