The athlete spotlight for this issue is Sarah Christy. She is a forward on the women’s soccer team. Sarah has contributed to many goals throughout her four years at Millikin University and recently has contributed early on after returning from an injury.
How long have you been playing soccer?
I’ve been playing soccer since I was five years old, so kindergarten.
Why did you want to continue to play soccer in college?
The reason I decided to keep playing soccer in college was because I wasn’t quite ready to let it go just yet. I’ve been playing every single year on multiple teams and I even quit the other sports I played, (basketball, volleyball) to focus more on soccer leading up to my senior year.
What are some hobbies you participate in besides soccer?
I love photography, long boarding, walking my dog and painting my nails.
What do you love most about Millikin University soccer?
The thing I love about playing here at Millikin is the team. There have been many different people on the team since I started out freshman year and I’ve made special relationships with every player on every team, each year. I like to call them my second family away from home. I can call some of these girls my best friends.
What are some goals for this season for you?
A goal I always had for every season is to get more goals than I scored the previous season. This year, I’m shooting for 13. I’m also planning on playing in every game without injuries!!
How did it feel to come off an injury and contribute in the first few minutes of substitution during the first game of the season?
It felt amazing finally getting to play in the first game of the season after suffering from a concussion all of preseason because within three minutes of me being in the last 8 minutes, I scored the first goal of the season! I am now starting to feel myself again and have big expectations for myself this season. I’m very excited to contribute and play!
