Are you an athlete? Do you want something more out of your athletic experience here at Millikin? Then the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) is your solution.
This group is made up of dedicated and hardworking athletes on campus, who want to contribute to making community life for athletes better, making a difference in the community and succeeding. If you look at it, the experience is only going to enhance your time at Millikin and enhance your future as a developing student-athlete. It gives you the opportunity to better yourself and others around you by contributing to the community.
SAAC on campus has a relationship with the DIII partners of the Special Olympics and work with them during certain months at their dances and events. Community involvement through SAAC is great because it gives you a break from school work or the regular athletic bind, to see others and make a difference. It is not only gratifying, but impacting others’ lives.
The mission of SAAC is “to enhance the total student athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image”.
Also, from the philosophy side of things, SAAC wants to “use Division III student-athletes to better the community through involvement in service opportunities, philanthropy, and Special Olympics partnership”.
For the student-athlete, this is an opportunity to show friends, family and future employers that you had the initiative to be a leader and make a difference. The SAAC organization right now is heading to great heights and is currently working on developing membership, DIII participation, community service, and leadership. It is a great time and you make create great networks with other athletes on campus.
So, with the end of the year approaching, take time to evaluate your position as a student-athlete by asking yourself if you would like to make a difference and make an impact on Millikin’s campus. Contact Kyline Humm for more information about SAAC or membership at [email protected].
