Women’s soccer coach Emily Johnson and the team are gearing down for the upcoming year in the world of college soccer. After a season that was showing improvement from the last, it is time for reflection and growth. Coach Johnson shared that, “our team competed very well in the CCIW and we were very pleased about it. We were right there in our games and had some very close ones”.
The program is looking to bring in a lot of recruits for the 2013 season and are looking to be deep in talent by the time that August rolls around for pre-season. Recruitment is going very well according to coach Johnson. She shares that, “all who are interested have had a lot of visits and we are interested in what the 2013 season brings. It will be exciting.”
Not only is the program looking for talented recruits, but they are looking to improving in many areas to strengthen the program. Fitness has been increased and they look forward to continuing their work on individual skills, more fitness and team chemistry. In addition to improving skills, the team has recently brought on assistant women’s soccer coach Gabriel Lock to help with the team. Lock has many years of experience in both playing on the field and coaching as well. It will be a positive addition to the rapidly growing program.
As prepping for the next season commences, coach Johnson also is reflecting on her coaching years so far here at Millikin and analyses everything that has happened so far in order to grow in a positive direction. Coach Johnson shared that, “I have really enjoyed coaching here and I am looking forward to continuing to build the program. We are going in the right direction and it is great.”
The women’s remaining players, after the seniors have graduated this May, are working hard and putting in the hours that are needed to make the Big Blue successful next season in the CCIW. They are looking forward to the spring season to start and to get back into the swing of being on the field and working hard. In the meantime, it is focusing on academics in the classroom, recruits, workouts, and team bonding. As is it an excited time for the program right now, it will be even more exciting for the program once the season gets into full swing.
