In an effort to integrate different cultures and create fun memories, Millikin’s International Student Organization is hosting a dodgeball tournament at the DISC this evening.
The event will be hosted at the Decatur Indoor Sports Center from 6-7 pm. Any student who wishes to attend must bring their Millikin ID. The event will be a fun experience open to all Millikin students who wish to participate and a great way to meet new students of various backgrounds.
Each spring semester, ISO hosts a sports tournament, but the organization wanted to try something different, having previously been playing soccer and volleyball in past events. The Vice President of ISO, Caroline Navarro Pereira came up with the idea of playing dodgeball, since they found both American and international students have played dodgeball while in middle or high school, wanting it to feel like a “universal” game to play.
“We hope to achieve a fun dodgeball night,” Vice President Caroline Navarro Pereira, said. “Despite their background, people can unite to play!”
While the board members discussed the dodgeball event’s rules and details, they noticed everybody has played dodgeball differently in their own home country. ISO wishes to play dodgeball with attendees with the “American” rules, but noted everyone will have the same base of how the game works.
“The week was long enough.” ISO president, Guy Gahungu, said. “Sí, let’s end it on a fun note.”
