For anyone wondering, Track and Field senior Christian Skaggs is okay.
Well of course he is. Why wouldn’t he be?
During a five mile run this afternoon, Skaggs was struck by a car in Fairview Park while attempting to cross the road.
This is the latest example of a Millikin student being struck by a vehicle, but this time was different, mainly because the incident didn’t take place on Millikin’s campus. However, there was a striking difference between the recent incidents and what Skaggs experienced.
After being struck by the vehicle with around a half-mile left in the loop, he finished the run.
“We were going out for an easy run,” he said. “We were doing our Fairview loop, so we started in Fairview. We ran through the trail, and we came back down past the baseball field. There was a car stopped at the stop sign, and he acknowledged that we were there.”
After the mutual acknowledgement, Skaggs crossed the road after his teammates.
“There were around five of us there,” he said. “The first four crossed, and then as soon as I was in front of him, he just took off. I bounced off of the car. He hit me in the side, and I pushed off of the car as he was hitting me. I didn’t necessarily get hit, I just bounced off of the car.”
After the incident, Skaggs finished up his run as if nothing had happened.
“Some lady down the street was standing on her porch, and she asked if I was okay,” Skaggs said. “Then, we just finished our run.”
