The International Student Organization’s (ISO) paint night and pizza party sparked joy and camaraderie, celebrating the power of art and friendship.
The Center for International Education office transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity and connection, where students shared food, friendship, and artistic talents. Capturing moments of students bonding over music and art was truly inspiring and sparked hope for increased participation in ISO’s events, which foster mutual understanding and belonging among students from diverse backgrounds. These events are designed to support international students’ transition and facilitate enriching interactions with American students, encouraging mutual understanding, respect and lifelong friendships.
One of the significant challenges that international and American students face when interacting is the language barrier. This is precisely why Caroline Narvarro Pereira, a Millikin sophomore and international student from Brazil who serves as Vice President of the International Student Organization, works diligently alongside other ISO students to organize events aimed at fostering cross-cultural understanding and connection among all students, encouraging American students to recognize the inclusive nature of these events designed to promote cultural exchange, friendship-building, and personal growth.
ISO throws a paint party every year, and let’s be real, who doesn’t love free grub and getting creative? They’re looking to get more American students to join their other events, so don’t let language barriers hold you back – you might just make some awesome friends.
Caroline shared ISO’s excitement for International Prom on December 6, 2024, themed “Under the Sea.” This highly anticipated event is open to all students and promises to be the semester’s highlight for international students, who typically do not have proms in their home countries. Attendees are encouraged to invite friends to enjoy food, music, and cultural exchange for an unforgettable night from 7-9 p.m. in the UC Banquet rooms.
