Using faith community, emotional support, and the love of Christ, Delight Ministries is making a huge impact in the lives of Millikin women.
Delight ministries is for college women seeking friendship with other women in a Christ-centered community that supports vulnerability and can lead to transformations. It’s a place to be fully known, fully loved and challenged. Delight believes in a community that comes together to lift one another up in difficult times and celebrate achievements.
Delight was started at Belmont University by founders Mackenzie Bridges (Mac) and Mackenzie Baker (Kenz) as they struggled their freshman year finding an authentic Christian community to do a bible study for women. In August 2012, the bell tower of Belmont University had a prayer chapel where Delight held its very first bible study.
Their core values are built around going out of their way to pursue people. They are intentional about inviting women in to be a part of the community and building a deeper relationship with Jesus.
They intentionally look for new and innovative ways of doing ministry. They are not afraid of doing things that haven’t been done before. That’s something we need, people that are no longer afraid to reach out to minister to those who no longer know where to look, especially on a college campus.
Delight not only believes in taking time to bring others closer to Jesus, but they also help guide them and provide them with resources to become strong and humble leaders.
Today, after a lot of hard work, years, prayers, and help, you’ll find Delight chapters on more than 230 college campuses, with 1,500 student leaders, reaching over 15,000 women with a heart for Jesus.
Last Wednesday was Delight’s kickoff event and it was held in the Pilling Chapel on campus. It was a brief meeting about what Delight Ministries is and who the Delight Leaders were. They had a phenomenal turn out as this is their first year on campus. There were at least 30 women in attendance and as the word gets around about who and what Delight is, they expect it to grow even bigger.
I was able to speak briefly with Allie McPherson who is Delight’s Service Event Coordinator, responsible for planning one service community event each semester.
“Delight is a very welcoming community for any woman, a great way to branch out and make Christ-centered friendships,” Allie said.
Breana Smith, who is the President and Team Director/Worship Coordinator for the Delight Ministries Chapter at Millikin University said that she was looking for a bible study and found Garden, a Delight Ministries Study. She did this study on her own in her dorm and realized it was so good that it needed to be shared with other women. I asked Breana how she was able to get Delight started for Millikin, she first started by reaching out to other females in the worship team. In March of 2023, she started training courses that were made available on the website and continued that training over the summer to be able to get a Delight chapter on campus here.
This young woman saw a need on our campus, and has worked tirelessly, selflessly, with another small group of young women who devoted their time, love and energy into bringing a visionary program to unite women who have a love of Christ and cultivate deep friendships, offering a welcome space to thrive and belong.
Delight will be doing a study this semester on the spiritual disciplines and gifts God gives us and how we can grow in them together. If you are interested in joining Delight Ministries please get in contact with Breana on their Instagram page which lies under the handle delight_millikinu.
