Ambulance Crashes into Millikin Wrestling Building
Around 6:00 pm on Saturday, an ambulance swerved into the Millikin Wrestling building after colliding with a white vehicle at the intersection of S. Church and W. Wood St near Downtown Decatur. No one was hurt.
An additional ambulance was called to the scene due to the collision. Additionally, the Decatur Fire Department, Decatur Police Department, Millikin Public Safety, and a City Inspector were called to the scene.
Luckily, no one was inside the building during the accident, and no one was harmed in either vehicle.
The driver of the white vehicle was an elderly male who was issued a citation for the accident. According to a family member of an individual involved in the accident, the white vehicle pulled out in front of the ambulance.
“A building inspector was called to look over the building,” Sargent Sawyer with the Decatur Police Department said.
According to emergency responders, the inspector was called to ensure the building was stable. The damages occurred close to the corner of the building, which left the stability of the building potentially compromised.
Millikin University Wrestling rents the building from a local. The owner of the building was on the scene, as well as multiple Millikin Wrestling coaches and at least one wrestler.
Millikin wrestled and won at Augustana Friday.
This is a developing story.
