Recruitment is in the air

Recruitment is in the air

It’s that time of the year again. The leaves are starting to change color, the pumpkin flavored food items are coming into stock and Greek Life had posters everywhere which leads to one thing: it’s recruitment time on campus.

Preparing months in advance, the fraternities and sororities welcome home a new group of members every semester. Millikin is slightly unique in how recruitment is done. While most universities have their formal recruitments before or during the first week of school, Millikin waits until the spring semester of the school year, leaving informal recruitment for the fall semesters. Each chapter brought in new members Sept. 11 when the chapters participated in the Dive and the Plunge respectively.

This year’s recruitment turnout was the largest Millikin has ever had—nearly 90 people went through. Senior Kayla Lovel, Alpha Chi Omega’s vice president of recruitment, commented on this fact and said, “I’ve been through three informal recruitments and this is definitely the largest I’ve seen. It was nice to see the variety of people interested in Greek Life.”

Alpha Chi Omega’s theme this semester was Shine Bright like an Alpha Chi, and brought in eight new sisters on bid day. This brings the number of women in this chapter to 83 members. New members: junior Emily Altic, sophomore Danielle Farley, junior Rebecca Fonseca, sophomore Janissa Gjertsen, senior Crystal Ham, sophomore Jamey Robar, sophomore Hannah Williams and sophomore Kelly Zeller.

Delta Delta Delta knew how to rock the campus with their theme, Rockin’ the Tri Delta Way, and grew by five members. This brings the number of women in this chapter to 77 members. New Members: Christina Capuani, sophomore Whitney Gray, sophomore Ashleigh Martens, senior Cassandre Ménage and senior Aubrie Sabin.

Pi Beta Phi gained eight new angels, going along great with their Angels in the Outfield theme. This brings the amount of women in this chapter to 76 members. New members: junior Sabrina Cipolla, sophomore Molly Compton, sophomore Kala Keller, sophomore Marah Kittelson, sophomore Lauren Montesano, sophomore Taryn Pepping, sophomore Elizabeth Pillow and sophomore Felicity Speirs.

The Alpha Tau Omega brotherhood grew by four members this semester. This brings the number of men in this chapter to 33 members. New Members: sophomore Spencer McGowan, junior Nathan Heppermann, sophomore Colten Watrous and sophomore Nicholas Kemp.

The brotherhood of Delta Sigma Phi added two new brothers. This brings the number of men in this chapter to 40 members. New Members: sophomore Lucas Stimach and sophomore Logan Mclaskey.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon gained five new gentlemen to add to their fraternity. This brings the number of men in this chapter to 42 members. New Members: senior Rob Diaz, junior Guillaume Fellus, junior Aymane Achite, junior Thomas Pelletier and junior Clément Baillard.

The Beta chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon brought in four brothers to add to their growing ranks this semester. This brings the number of men in this chapter to 33 members. New Members: sophomore Quentin Favors, sophomore Alan Hernandez, junior Chris Lee and sophomore Johnny Tasch.

When asked about her new home at Alpha Chi Omega, sophomore Danielle Farley said, “I really love it. I was hesitant at first to go through recruitment, but now I know I made the right decision in rushing. I feel like I found a place I belong.”

Congratulations to all who found their homes going through recruitment this semester.
