This year, the Chicago Blackhawks took the Stanley Cup back to the Windy City as they celebrate their most recent win. Although things seemed great for all the players, things shortly changed for the team.

Players like Brandon Saad and Patrick Sharp are moving on from the Blackhawks to other teams. New players have been placed on the team, and all the fans are anxious to see the new team perform.

Most recently, one player has received quite the negative spotlight. Patrick Kane – right wing for the Blackhawks – has been accused of raping a woman. Kane and some friends went to a nightclub in Buffalo, N.Y., where Kane had drinks and invited some people over for a private party. One of the female guests went into a room where Kane allegedly followed her. According to the statement of the victim, this is when Kane overpowered her.

After the incident, the victim and another women left and immediately went to the nearest hospital where a rape kit was administered to collect all possible DNA that could potentially remain on the victim.

Investigators were quick to investigate the story and start questioning potential witnesses, one being Kane’s private driver for the night. Buffalo Police Lieutenant, Thomas English, was off duty and is Kane’s private driver as a second job. English told Buffalo News that there was a mutual agreement between Kane and the guests in the car that they go to Kane’s house and hang out. Other reports suggest the raped victim just tagged along to accompany her friend.

Police are scanning through social media posts to see if Kane had already knew his accuser to understand Kane’s state of mind. An investigation in his home where the alleged rape occurred has been launched to see if there is any evidence of the event.

This has caused a lot of controversy amongst fans. Some simply think he’s guilty and he should face the consequences no matter how famous he is. Others view the situation differently, instead saying that the victim is claiming a false accusation to receive compensation since Kane has one the highest paid contracts on the team.

Kane’s reputation also does not help his case. He’s known for his heavy consumption of alcohol. Three years ago, Kane was in one drunken incident after another. With this current scandal, things are not looking the best for the professional 26-year-old hockey player.

The scandal has received a massive amount of publicity, and it doesn’t seem like the case will be ending for some time. The investigation will continue but at the time this article was written, Kane has not been charged.
