At least 20 people killed by al-Shabab terrorist attack
20 people have died in an attack that was carried out by militants that are linked to al-Qaeda this past weekend.
According to Bloomberg.com, the blast which has killed at least 20 people took place on Friday. The report states that it was car bomb in Mogadishu that has claimed at 20 lives. Of those 20 lives, the reports states two parliament members and a deputy Mayor of Mogadishu were killed in the attack.
The bombing was located at Central Hotel in Mogadishu Somalia. Another article released by Voice of America News stated that the al-Shabab militants were responsible for this latest attack and that the al-Shabab have ties to al-Qaeda. This article states that two bombings went off at the hotel relatively close together in time, and then shortly after the bombing gunfire began in the hotel. VOA News also states that the Deputy Prime Minister Mohamed Omar Arte. The article goes on to list that the Transport and Aviation Minister was injured, and a local author and official were killed in the attack.
The VOA news report states that the president of Somalia is planning to take action against these militants. It seems that there should be no doubt that al-Shabab was to blame for the attacks as they quickly took responsibility for the bombings after they occurred. VOA News article stated that the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, gave his condolences and stated that he would begin a crack down on the violent terrorist group. The article also quoted a White House official who also condolences on behalf of the United States and the White House, the representative also went on to state that the attack just proved that al-Shabab was nothing more than a violent group.
40 killed in suicide bombings in eastern Libya
Mogadishu wasn’t the only place to see horrific bombings on Friday, Feb. 20. According to a report released by Chron.com, suicide bombings in eastern Libya have claimed at least 40 lives.
The report stated that Qubba in Libya is site for all of the horrific bombings that occurred last Friday. This most recent string of attacks according to the report released by Chron says that the bombings occurred because of the attacks that were carried out against the extremist group that was setting up a branch in North Africa.
The report goes on to state that the militant group has already taken control of two places in Libya. Sirte and Darna have currently been taken over by the militants both of the towns are relatively close to Qubba where the attacks were carried out. If you are unfamiliar with the political state of Libya, the country has found itself under attack since their dictator was ousted in back in 2011, the report goes on to give a more detailed breakdown on the growing militant presence in Libya.
As for the attacks themselves, the Islamic State Group has taken responsibility for two attacks, the government in Libya however is currently saying that there were three attacks carried out, the report includes. One of the bombings involved a suicide bomber driving an ambulance filled with explosives into gas station, according to a report released by an Army spokesman in Libya. As for the other two bombings that the government is attributing to the terrorist group, a car bomb exploded near the house of a parliament member, and the other near a security headquarters.
The report goes on to state that 40 people have died so far. They said that at least 70 people were injured, and some of those were serious injuries. The officials handling the attack said they expected the number of deaths to rise in the coming days.
Mayor of Caracas arrested
The Mayor of Caracas, Antonio Ledezma has recently been taken into custody according to the report released by CNN.
The mayor has been arrested for his criticism of the government, and the report states he has been cited labeling the government as a dictatorship which has angered the President Nicolás Maduro. The report also states at Ledezma is being held in custody for plans to attack the government and state.
In a rally demonstrating for her husband’s freedom, Mitzy Capriles and others ex government officials who have began to rebel against the government. The report also states that the President Nicolás Maduro celebrated the arrest of Ledezma on television, and even linked the White House to plan to bring down the government in Caracas Venezuela. The report states that spokeswoman from the White House as discredited that the White House had anything at all to do with any plans with Ledezma and any of his other supporters.
