The former president of Haiti dead at 63
The former president of Haiti was found dead in his home on Sat. Oct. 4, according to a report released by the New York Times.
Jean-Claude Duvalier was most known for his brutal rule in Haiti, his exile, and of course his famous return in 2011. According to the report, Duvalier took over as president when his father died. At 19, Duvalier was the youngest head of state, and he would continue on his father’s legacy, washing Haiti in a strict regimented government which at the time meant that the only opportunity for a new president was when the previous one passed on, and then the position would just passed down to his oldest son or next in line. This methodology only insured that violence and mayhem would incur so long as Duvalier remained in power.
With billions of dollars in his pocket, Duvalier fled Haiti not return for some 25 years when unrest of the people became concerning. Until he resurfaced in 2011 just after the earthquake that left Haiti ravaged. According to the New York Times, many people speculate that he only returned in the hopes of making money on the ravaged nation of his people. The article goes on to state that it would appear Duvalier had been sick for an extended period of time upon returning to Haiti, and many people wonder if this man really came home to die. A wife, a son and a daughter survive him.
ISIS beheads another
Alan Henning, a British aid worker was murdered on Fri. Oct. 3, according to CNN. It appears that this yet another beheading in an act of violence towards those wishing to stop ISIS. Over the course of the last few months, it has become more and more dangerous out there for people wishing to help in war torn countries, as Alan Henning and his family discovered.
A video was released on Fri, Oct. 3, depicting Henning just before his execution. In his final moments, the report states that Henning looked into the camera and began to speak on the unification that has brought 40 some countries together to try and put an end to this terrorist group once and for all and how that was what he was paying for now.
This execution video has been in the same style as the previous ones to be released by this terrorist group, the report concluded. This video was clearly scripted and was ended with a threat like the others had. After his violent beheading, the executioner of Alan Henning, according to the report, said that their next victim would be Peter Kassig. They said that the American would be executed because of the amount of help that the United States has already given to the Britain other bombers working to bring down this group.
This latest atrocity has only further sparked the anger of those who are tired of sitting by as innocent people on aid missions are graphically beheaded and broadcasted to the world. In a statement released by the White House, they promised to not only take action for those who have lost their lives, but to destroy this latest terrorist threat.
