3OH!3

Cool, calm, and collective. This was how the night started off pre-Big Event. In an exclusive interview, The Decaturian was able to interview the group 3OH!3 before the Big Event started. 3OH!3 is an American electropop duo from Boulder, Colorado, made up of Nathaniel Motte and Sean Foreman. Both Motte and Foreman attended the University of Colorado in Denver and now they tour the world and mainly the United States, “bringing smiles to fans’ faces.” 3OH!3 not only were fun and personable, but they shared everything from crazy fans to their favorite memories. As to what is their favorite part about preforming and coming to college campuses, Motte shared that, “It is a ton of fun. We basically started writing and preforming right when we first started making music at University of Colorado. It just is always fun.” Not only is it fun, but it is “an awesome job.” Both Motte and Foreman were so grateful to be able to wake up and preform every single day to their fans and to “bring smiles to their faces.” They mentioned also that even though they get to wake up and rock out all day, the only downside would be having to wake up everyday at usually around 4 a.m. in order for everything to go smoothly. As early as that sounds, anyone who attended the Big Event would never have guessed that they have been up since 4 in the morning from the way they partied on stage.

As the night went on, the atmosphere not only picked up, but everyone took part in partying with 3OH!3 in the Kirkland Fine Arts center. Surprisingly, Ke$ha was not their favorite artist to collaborate with. The best song to make was “Don’t trust me” with Katy Perry. It was literally just like a party. Working with Katy was a great experience. A funny story that we always love to tell is when we were filming with Katy Perry for the video. We had to run out and get her a bag of potato chips because she wanted some. Her excuse was that it greased up her vocal chords, but we both knew she just really wanted those chips.” Not only were both of the band members funny, but they brought an electric feel and energy to the room. With that being said, they shared why they do what they do every day and what inspires them. They started off sharing that, “We love what we do and are grateful for having the best job in the world. We have done a lot and brought a lot to the music world, but in the past year or two we have worked very hard with producing songs and writing songs for other artists.” Many of you Milli-students probably won’t know this, but as they mentioned at the beginning of the concert, they were here to “pop our Milli-bubble.” It was quite a humorous way to open up the Big Event, but back to the point. They have worked hard to produce songs for other artists and a major one that everyone would know is Maroon 5’s “Love Somebody.” It is quite the event to write and produce your own music, but 3OH!3 loves to make music for other artists. Recently Motte helped produced a song for Ariana Grande to sing at the White House at an event hosted by the First Lady and the President. To say the least, 3OH!3 is not only a great preforming group, but they have many talents that help many other up and coming, and already famous artists, bring successful songs to the top of the billboards.

To end the interview, both Motte and Foreman were asked what was something a fan did that was out of this world. They both started to laugh and agreed instantaneously that the craziest fan they had was Andy Dick. They shared that, “At one of our concerts recently he tried to jump on our stage and steal the microphone. Later on after the show we came back to our dressing room to him drinking our beer.” In the end, the band loved coming to visit Millikin and bring the students of Millikin University an amazing show. This goal was achieved as students were out of their seats the entire show and dancing throughout each song. Overall, this year’s Big Event was a major hit with an energetic, amazing group.
