With the excitement for the start of a new school year comes the excitement of another recruitment season for Millikin’s Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council chapters. From Sept. 4th to Sept. 12th, the two councils spread the word around campus, hanging up posters and expressing why Greek life is a great way of getting more involved on campus. 80 students, sophomores and older, signed up to go through the Fall of 2013 Informal Recruitment. Out of the 80 who participated in the recruitment process, 46 accepted bids to the seven Greek organizations that fall under Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council on September 13th, where the initiation classes were revealed during Panhellenic’s biannual Dive and Interfraternity’s biannual Plunge. When asked about the success of this recruitment compared to past semesters, Alicia Gilbert, associate director in the Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement, expressed, “I think this recruitment was a success. It was a flexible process for our prospective new members, and it allowed non-Greek students to talk to Greek affiliated groups.”
Though the council chapters are celebrating their new members, planning never stops. Plans for spring semester’s Formal recruitment is already up for discussion. “Formal recruitment is structure,” Gilbert continued on when asked what she hopes to change for the next semester, “and the biggest change we are looking forward to is the time frame. The start and end point has typically been a three day process–from Wednesday to Friday–and we’re hoping to spread it out to accommodate everyone’s busy schedules in the start of the spring semester.”
Spring semester Formal recruitment starts the last week of January. It is open to all students with a Millikin GPA.
