Fall break: Thanks For The Memories

Ah fall break: that built-in cure for homesickness for some that live close by and a remedy for restlessness for others.

Fall break, depending on when you took your midterms, is a time of comatose if your midterms came and went. It’s just a time to catch some z’s and get energized to finish the semester stronger.

Unfortunately, it’s too short for many students’ liking. Nevertheless, it seems most people are looking forward to spending time with friends and family and sleeping in and having a valid excuse not to go to class Friday or Monday. There will be plenty of snuggling one’s pets and binge watching Netflix without that pesky homework and responsibilities getting in the way. Fall break is a time to chillax and gobble up comfort food whether it be a home cooked meal from mom and relatives or a chicken burrito bowl with chips and guacamole from Chipotle.

Those four days are a gift to be treasured and milked for all its glory. This time of the semester comes and goes and kind of leaves us reflecting on if we really have been at school for that long.

What I love about fall break is that means something different to each and every one of us. For some, it was going home and exploring a beautiful garden to witness the leaves changing colors and falling off the tress. As for others, it was going home but seeing off their sister for her senior POM’s night. Sometimes, fall break is doing nothing but cuddling with their dogs or getting ahead for the rest of the semester. Maybe it’s the little things that ease the continuous routine of classes like just getting out of Decatur for a little while.

For me personally, fall break was a time sleep in, cuddle up to my dog and not have to worry about homework. If you stayed in Decatur I can imagine it involved sleeping in as well and watching Harry Potter on ABC family with friends in a blanket fort perhaps.

The resounding answer when asked what their plans were for fall break and what they looked forward to during this time was doing nothing and sleep. I don’t blame them. This time was most definitely all about relaxing and just being in a tranquil place. Whether you went home or just spent time with friends and family in town, I’m sure this pause in the semester was much needed.

Memories were made and pictures were taken to commemorate how freeing and releasing of stress this break was. I saw friends inviting each other for movie nights and or having Starbucks runs together.

While classes are back in session, we can still look back fondly on this time off with nothing but love. We may have gone home or stayed in town but we sure made the best of it. We played video games with siblings or traveled to Wisconsin Dells or maybe even sang in a wedding, but we did not squander the time we were given. We enjoyed the heck out of those four days with time spent with friends, family or snuggling in bed with a lot of blankets. Cheers to fall break, rest for the many for being that little piece of reprieve heaven that was oh so needed.
