Professor Spotlight: Dr. Munoz

What’s truly unique about the professors here at Millikin is both their intelligence and their commitment to helping students achieve success. Many of our professors have educational backgrounds at some of the most impressive institutions of higher education in the nation, making them extremely capable of leading their students to success.

Furthermore, the professors here at Millikin University strive to help all of their students succeed in the classroom, in order for them to attain a very successful life. Dr. J. Mark Munoz, a business professor here at MU, is no exception.

Before coming to Millikin to begin his career teaching in higher education, Munoz had a very exciting time when pursuing his degrees in higher education. After achieving an MBA as well as a Ph.D in Management from the University of San Jose, Munoz further continued his post-graduate education – taking advantage studying internationally – as he has been a student both at Pecking University, which is located in China, as well as attending Via Whu University in Germany. Additionally, Munoz also visited a fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University for a Year.

After spending many years in higher education, Munoz decided to come to MU to teach. Here at the Big Blue, Munoz is a professor of management and international business. Class wise, Munoz teaches a wide variety of unique management and business classes including business creation, and introduction to business class, international business and business strategy.

Additionally, Dr. Munoz also teaches a class called international business consulting, a class where Millikin University students can get their first real taste of what it is like to actually take part in creating and performing international business projects. According to Munoz during an interview, the takes part in “real life projects for companies, and sometimes governments, in various parts of the world.”

Although Munoz is recognized as a management and international business professor here at Millikin, he has just accepted another position at the school.

Towards the end of September, students as well as faculty members of Millikin received an email from our university’s president, Dr. Patrick White. The email stated that Dr. Susan M. Kruml was leaving her position as the dean of the Tabor School of Business, taking a position as the vice president of academic affairs at Midland University, located in Fremont, Neb.

Because of how quickly Dr. Kruml accepted her new position, and in order to keep the Tabor School of Business running smoothly in the time between getting a new dean, Dr. Munoz was chosen to act as a temporary dean for the school.

“Basically, I’ll take over as dean for the time being, until a new dean can be found,” Munoz said. When asked why he thinks that he was offered the part-time position as the dean of the Tabor School of Business, Munoz said that it has to do with his reputation in the Tabor School of Business.

When searching for someone to fill the shows of the temporary dean, Munoz stated that the school was looking for someone who could provide both stability as well as continuity in running the school of business. As Munoz has been a professor at Millikin University for 15 years, his experience with the school has been able to help him receive the temporary position. When asked what his plans are as a dean, Munoz responded that he hopes to steer the school towards even greater success in the future.
