The Future is Now: Walkman the Reckoning.

You heard correctly. The year is 2015 and Walkman is returning. Not with the cassette tape or the CD but with the MP3. But in this age where Apple reigns supreme how can the Walkman possibly stand up against this giant. Apple has been active in this community at a commercial consumer level while Walkman has been quiet in the background.

The new Walkman has been advertised as a purely musical device. You can download a few google apps to help with the downloading of more music, but other than that there is no video, minimal games and just music. With Apple products being so busy with the thousands of game apps that are tempting, there is usually hardly any room for actual music on an IPod anymore.

Speaking of room on the device, the Walkman has an abundance of it. With a total of 128GB this device can store over 15,000 regular songs and 800 high resolution audio files. It has a battery life of 33 hours of high quality playback and 60 hours of regular MP3 playback. That is a lot of song time for one device. On top of this 128 GB of memory there is also an SD card slot. So in theory you could have an extra 128GB on top of the device’s built in 128GB. That is a lot of music.

The cool thing about this device is that it has an equalizer built in. This way you can always tailor you listening experience to be how you want it. It has a higher resolution of sound quality than the ordinary CD.

The physical design is made for ease of use. Not only can you control your music through the standard touch screen, but you can also use a complete range of controls on the side. It has a pause/play button, a skip button and a reverse button along with the usual volume adjustment controls. This makes it easy to simply skip a song while you are on your way to work.

When it comes to music and design it truly seems like the Walkman has the one up on Apple. However there is one issue that will stand in the way of its popularity: the price. Apple prices are already high for a normal consumer averaging around $200-$300. The Walkman blows that out of the water costing a whopping $1,200. This is an insane price to pay and while all of the features are nice, there is no way a normal consumer would ever purchase this device.
