Meet The New Freshmen Class!

Welcome class of 2018! We look forward to all of the fond memories to come. But for those of us who are not in this class, what can we look to see in them? Where are they from? What do they study? With over 490 people, it’s hard to get to know them all. Hopefully this article will give us some further insight to the class of 2018.

While 78% of the freshmen class is from Illinois, we have new students here from all over the country. Hailing from 22 different states, out-of-state students come from states as close as Indiana and Iowa, and they reach as far away as Oregon and Florida. Who knows, there might be freshmen from your own hometown.

The women in this class make up 57% of the class as a whole. The most popular girl names in this class are Elizabeth, Danielle and Rachel so you are bound to find one in a class or two. For the guys, the most popular names are Michael, Jacob and Luke.

Now for the most important part: Majors. Upper classmen are always interested to see how many students are going to be coming to their department in the next year. While these are not numbers, these percentages should give you a decent idea of who will be sitting next to you this year. Theatre makes up the biggest portion of the freshmen class coming in at 14%. Nursing comes in after at 13%, followed by Music at 12%, Exploratory studies at 12%, Business at 11% and Biology coming in at 10%.

On a lighter note, there were some interesting emails people used to enroll at Millikin. At orientation, Millikin listed some of the more interesting email addresses they received. Some weren’t so bad, like stlcardinalfan1, raydudebryant and rachelbethbroadway. Some were a little out there, such as gamehunter95, amusingfizz and imacutereindeer. But there were some that were particularly strange such as, beefstew, mooseduncan and dangerpepperoni. All in all, it is quite the interesting mix.

Remember applying for Millikin and they asked for living preferences? The freshmen preferences are just like what you would think. 72% of freshmen like to sleep in. This is college, so what would you expect? However, only 3% say they are messy. But we all know that isn’t always the case. To that 3%, thank you for being honest. To the 51% that are a bit messy, some of you must be lying.

Unfortunately, these are only numbers. We can only truly get to know the freshmen class by talking to them. But for now, we hope you love the Big Blue as much as we do.
