As we approach the opening night of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, one question remains: how far would you go to obtain wealth and status?
The School of Theatre and Dance kicks off the ’25-’26 season with their mainstage production of A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder under the direction of Millikin’s own Kevin Long and Beth Mason Creighton as the music director.
The actors have been hard at work for the past 6 weeks in rehearsals, and the campus is buzzing with excitement for the premiere of the murder comedy musical.
The show, written by Robert L. Freedman and composed by Steven Lutvak, graced the stage for the first time in October 2012, and now, thirteen years later, it has made its way to the Millikin stage in the Virginia Rogers Theatre.
The production promises an afternoon or evening filled with laughable moments, dark humor, witty remarks, and undeniably catchy songs.
The comedy, set in 1907 London, follows the character of Monty Navarro, a poor boy who discovers he is eighth in line for an earldom in the D’Ysquith family. But with only so much time, can he speed up his rise through the ranks and become first in line?
Watch Navarro, played by Aidan Kostbade, as he attempts to rise in status through the act of murder. This comedy features unforgettable music, creative chaos, and satirized themes of class, love, and ambition.
Not to mention the added chaos of one actor, Lucas Finley, single-handedly playing the roles of the eight D’Ysquith family heirs ahead of Navarro in the line for earldom, which is sure to make for laughable scenes and an interesting stage presence.
A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder has a run-time of 2 hours and 20 minutes with an intermission. Showtimes include Thursday, October 16th at 7:30 pm, Friday, October 17th at 7:30 pm, Saturday, October 18th at 2:00 pm, and Sunday, October 19th at 2:00 pm.
Tickets can be purchased for $25.00 per person online and at the door, or are free for Millikin students at the ticket booth in The School of Theatre and Dance with a valid Millikin ID.
