Movie Review: The Eye of Agamotto

When it comes to saving the day, some heroes will rely on technology, but there is one among the ranks who laughs and starts casting his spells. Dr. Stephen Strange is no ordinary magician though. He is the Sorcerer Supreme and is the mightiest magic user Earth has. Soon the new Dr. Strange movie will be coming out, and for those of you who have never heard of Strange, there might be some things you’ll want to know.

Stephen Strange was born in November of 1930. He was an average child with two younger siblings, Donna and Victor Strange. One day when Donna was eleven she was in some form of accident and Stephen did everything he could to heal her, and the experience ultimately made him interested in the field of medicine. He went to study medicine as soon as he could, eventually becoming a skilled neurosurgeon. Before the age of thirty, Strange had become one of the most wealthy and renown neurosurgeons of the time. However, his quick rise to the top changed him; he became selfish, narcissistic, and greedy. He was at the point where he didn’t care about the patients as long as they could afford him. Now through this time Strange had lost his sister and his mother and soon his father would pass as well. Stephen acted as though he didn’t give a damn and his brother confronted him about it. Victor, furious, left in such a rush that he walked into the street as a car hit him. Strange internalized it and became even colder to the world.

Then one day everything changed. He was in a severe car accident and although the doctor was able to save Strange, he wasn’t able to repair the nerve damage in his hands. The nerve damage effectively killed Strange’s medical practices. Being too proud to become an assistant or an advisor he started searching and paying for every possible cure and even performed illegal surgeries just to get by. He then heard of a mystical man known as the ancient one. Strange then used all of his money to get a ticket to the east in hopes of finding the so-called healer. That is how The Ancient One found his new apprentice.

Dr. Strange being a sorcerer draws his power from mystical entities such as Agamotto, Cyttorak, Ikonn, Oshtur, Raggadorr, and Watoomb, who lend their energies for spells. But Strange also wields some magic artifacts that help him in battle. His Cloak of Levitation allows him to fly around light as a feather. The Eye of Agamotto is a talisman that allows Strange to negate evil magic. His Orb of Agamotto allows for clairvoyance and aids Strange in seeing the future. Finally, his Book of the Vishanti, a book with the greatest white magic spells in the universe.

Dr.Strange doesn’t just rely on parlor tricks, he is also trained in many forms of martial arts, and when the times call for it, skilled in sword combat.

One of his greatest gifts is that Strange had been given ageless life after passing a test against death itself.

Strange has had a high position amongst heroes for a long time. Once he helped Thor after Loki tried to trick him. On many occasions he teamed up with the young Spiderman. Strange and Stark even worked together a couple of times even though neither will mention it. Most of the time the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and the X-men will consult with Doctor Strange whenever something magical comes their way. Lucky for Earth, we have the world’s most powerful Sorcerer to protect us.
